The Newblood Live Story
In a nut shell... in October 2006, me and a friend had tried to get into the Forum to see our other friends band...
but we couldn't get in and we were dead disapointed.
So that night I laid in bed and thought of what I could do to stop that from happening again, not just for me but for everyone
I was elected as Member of Youth Parliament for the town 8 months before and had been racking my brains for something I could do to help the young people in the town
That was when I came up with the idea of a 14-17 night at the Forum for young bands, this way we'd all be able to get in to see our friends!
In December, me and Christian (Deputy Member of Youth Parliament) won an award for our dedication, which was some money to put towards a project of our choice.
Luckily, that night at the awards ceremony, I met Dave Cox, the owner of the Forum. I told him briefly about my idea and he thought it sounded good and we agreed to meet up in the new year.
Over christmas, I got chatting to a couple of friends who wanted to help me out, so we decided that we would apply for some money from the very lovely DOSH fund... who gave us a grant to start up the project.
After many meetings with Dave and the others who were helping me out, including staff from the youth service, we came up with the name Newblood Live I loved the name, and the idea behind it was the fact that the bands that would be playing would be new...new to the audience- new blood. And well... the live part is pretty obvious!
In April 2007, using the award money, we held our first concert in the market square and then later had our first Newblood Live night at the Forum.
Since then the night has gone from strength to strength with audience numbers going from averaging 60 to being sold out at 250!!
That is all down to YOU so thankyou for helping me out!!!
Hope you enjoy Newblood as much as I do :D
