Despite feeling like its been around since forever, First Out was only established in 1986 (admittedly way ahead of the pack, and come to think of it, somewhat older then the younger clientele - sheesh), and was London's first out and proud lesbian & gay cafe-bar. (hence the pun-a-riffic name)
Over the years First Out is has earned its place in the hearts of many for its quirky blend of laid back urban café life and chilled-out bar atmosphere.
Always with one eye on its conscience, First Out is proud to serve excellent organic fairtrade coffee, veggie and vegan snacks, and (hic) tempting alcoholic beverages, all priced so you can afford to come every day (or splash out on that extra slice of chocolate cake and come every second day). First Out is also an avid recycler and is currently investigating ways in which to reduce its carbon footprint (and, ahem, electricity bills).
Constantly changing, the innovative international vegetarian menu offers a wide range of tasty and inventive meals at affordable prices. First Out also have a fantastic range of gateaux, pastries and excellent homemade cakes on offer.
First Out is also proud to present regular art exhibitions for up-and-coming and established LGBT, queer and queer-friendly artists, so there's always something pretty to look at on the walls (when you're not checking out the staff that is).
Our intimate little basement bar offers an enticing range of cocktails, beers, wines and spirits. The bar plays a great selection of music during the week and on Fridays hosts long time lesbian favourite Girl Friday which is a basically that big relieved end of the week sigh, except with more drinking, dancing and occasional furtive groping. And its a pretty good way to start the weekend.
