Special thanks to S. Fellows, D. Clausen, S. McKenna, K. Egan, and D. Bernardi.
"Traveling Sitting Still is a superb collection of short stories, far superior to anything I have read by a young writer. This collection reflects an unusual combination of writing and storytelling talents. By shedding new light and insights into commonplace occurrences, many of these stories elevate everyday events and experiences to the level of high literary art. Other stories in the collection do likewise with more profound human tragedies that cast an uncompromising light on the terrible things human beings knowingly and unknowingly do to one another, while simultaneously reminding us that the roles of victim and oppressor can be easily reversed."
-Dennis M Clausen, author of Prairie Son.
"Traveling Sitting Still is a wonderful collection of short stories. The characters are interesting, amusing, and tragic--meaning they are all real. Woerheide does not shy from telling the truth through the lives of these characters, even if the truth is not attractive. ... He takes daring chances in this book, and in my opinion they result in some of its most gripping and transcendent moments."
-David Bernardi, Editorial Consultant.
"Take it from me there is not a dud in the bunch. ...what Robert has done follows Ezra Pound's dictum of making things new. 'Make it new,' Pound said. Make it fresh, make it unique, make it uncommon. Which is what Robert has done. He has also made it look easy.
Woerheide's lines are honed to a precision that makes for clean, fast-paced, perceptive storytelling, no drag, no bluffing, no false filling for lacking ideas. It's a collection well worth the time and the $9.95, especially if one loves literature. These twelve stories will leave most readers satisfied and wondering what Robert Judge Woerheide will do next. It's a fine anticipation."

-Duff Brenna, AWP Best Novelist Award Winner.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Readers.

"Traveling Sitting Still is rich with insight into the human condition. Whether it's a wounded American GI forced to dig his own grave during World War II, a lonely mysophobic stuck on an entrance ramp in Los Angeles, or a man headed for divorce finding solace in a Chiquita banana sticker, the compelling voices in Traveling Sitting Still heal many of the wounds their stories examine.

In an age of increasing anonymity, when so many find themselves alone, Traveling Sitting Still reminds us that we are part of a greater whole.

It is this single thread of humanity which informs and empowers Traveling Sitting Still. These hard-edged, uncompromising stories remind us that we are not alone: that it is often, simply, perspective which cages us. Traveling Sitting Still is fearless in the way it provides keys to escaping these cages."

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Robert's poetry and fiction have appeared in Triplopia, Miranda Literary Magazine, Coe Review, and Cadillac Cicatrix. He has written for The San Diego Troubadour, INSPORTS Magazine, and Perigee. He is the recipient of the American Astronautical Society's first place award for nonfiction, is a two time finalist in the Arthur Edelstein Short Fiction Contest, and his collection of short stories, Traveling Sitting Still, earned both the Editor's Choice Award and the Publisher's Choice Award from iUniverse. He serves as Perigee's Managing Editor, and lives in downtown St. Louis. He is currently writing his first novel.

Robert's stories deal with humanity--usually in contemporary settings. His fiction explores the darker aspects of the human condition and our ability to exist within them. Indeed, even to excel within them: to love, forgive, empathize, learn, and change. His stories are often bold and brutal, but always human.
