About Me

Check out my new music page at Jon McMillan - Bass

When I'm not busy designing biothreat detection instruments, or at home taking care of the family, I'm usually playing bass. I started at 9 years old - do the math. I play fretted 4, 5, and 6 string basses and fretless 5. My experience ranges from university level jazz bands to Country and Rock and Blues bar bands to Bluegrass to Indie-pop to a modern jazz guitar trio. Lot's of other things in between all those genres. I currently play with The Randy Heddon Trio - a piano/vocal jazz trio with pianist Randy Heddon and drummer Matt Thomas.
My bass Gear: Roscoe 6 string ca. '95, custom built Warmoth 4 string Jazz Bass, custom built Warmoth 5 string Precision, custom built Warmoth Gecko 5 string, Rick Turner Electroline 5 string fretless, Aguilar AG500SC-112 combo amp, SansAmp Para Driver DI/preamp, Boss Bass Chorus pedal. That's about it.

Bass Influences: Jackie Street, Tommy Sims, Jimmy Lee Sloas, Ronny Cates, Anthony Sallee, Mike Chapman, Gary Lunn, Niel Stubenhaus, Lee Sklar, Jimmy Johnson, John Patitucci, Mark Egan, Anthony Jackson, Alphonso Johnson, Jaco, Gary Willis, Steve Swallow, Chris Wood, and ABE LABORIEL. I'm also into Scott LaFaro, Mingus, Paul Chambers, Ron Carter and a slew of other great upright jazz players.
