New Deal Cafe

About Me

Luscious desserts, captivating live entertainment, and an intimate community atmosphere. Exhibitions by local artists, and a decent cup of coffee... who could ask for anything more?
The New Deal Cafe is nestled in historic Roosevelt Center in the heart of Old Greenbelt. Take in a movie in the theater across the square, and join us for dinner afterward. Enjoy live music on weekends. Sample our gourmet wine selection. Have a latte and read your email using our free WiFi Internet access.
Not only a fabulous restaurant specializing in Mediterranean delicacies, The New Deal Cafe is a gallery, showcasing the work of local artists. We're a great music venue, showcasing a broad variety of genres from the best local bands in the DC/MD/VA/PA region.
For music bookings, please read this FAQ for performers .
About the New Deal Cafe :
A Short History of the New Deal Cafe
For years, Greenbelt residents caught up on old news and greeted their neighbors in such places as the produce aisle of the Co-op grocery store and the gasoline station. These are not the ideal locations for extended philosophical debates and lively games of chess. Greenbelt was in need of a coffee house. Perhaps the idea for a cafe was spurred on by a vacant space (later filled) at Greenbelt's Roosevelt Center, which seemed perfect for such a meeting place. Read more !
How Can I Help?
Become a member ! The New Deal Cafe is a member-supported cooperative.
There are many ways to donate, and they aren't all monetary!
- You can volunteer your time behind the counter or behind the scenes, helping one of our committees.
- Bring your friends to the cafe! Every new customer is a great help to us.
How to Make a Tax Deductible Donation:
Tax-deductible donations can be made online or by check to the Friends of New Deal Cafe Arts (FONDCA). FONDCA is a non-profit, tax exempt 501c(3) organization founded in 2002 whose mission is to provide financial and other support for arts and cultural activities at the New Deal Cafe, and in Roosevelt Center and the surrounding community.
FONDCA rents wall space at the cafe for the monthly art exhibits, so your donation directly supports the cafe. Your donation to FONDCA can be applied to a specific area like "concerts" or "art shows" or "rent". Simply mark your preference in the memo space on your check or on the PayPal donation page .
- You can contact FONDCA's president, Barbara Simon with questions or comments about FONDCA's operation.
- Write a check. Make it out to the FONDCA, and drop it in the mail—better yet, come in for dinner and drop it off!
