About Me

Mexican grew up in Jamaica. At the age of 14, while still at school, he decided that he wanted to become a dancehall DJ. Mexican started out performing at local shows and on small sound systems in May Pen his home town. Originally his friends called him Wild Mexican, and using this name he voiced his first tune for Courtney Cole's Roof international label . Mexican went on to voice tunes for Winston Riley's Techniques label in Kingston."Mary Little Puss" and "Black John" were small under ground hits but didn't really give him the break he wanted. He also voiced a tune called "Wifey and Matey" for King Jammys Records and the Canadian producer Colington entitled "How Dem a Go Stop We Again”.

Mexican was approached by Slingshot, his school friend and the two of them would drive every day to Main Street Studio in Mexican's beat up car looking to voice some hit tunes and get a break in the business. These trips led to the pair voicing a hit for Danny Browne's Main Street Juvenile label called "Girls Selector ” . Mexican and Slingshot then voiced a number of tunes for Goofy's Young Blood label and these provided the biggest successes to date. "Girls Prime Minister" and "Short Man Tall Man" was both well received but "What Time is it?" was a worldwide dancehall smash and was released in the UK on Greensleeves. The pair then made the trip to the UK and hooked up with Rootsman to voice some dub plate specials, and this led to Mexican voicing a total of 5 solo tunes. One of these was WWW" , has been remixed by The Bug and appeared on a 7" on the Razor X label. It has been acclaimed as Single Of he Month in Ministry, DJ, Record Collector and Music Magazines.

Mexican took time out in 2003 to become a radio dj, which he was voted best Urban DJ of the year on a West Midlands local radio station Kriss FM . Look out for more dancehall killers from Mexican in the future.
