About Me

Single white metro, buddhist, enjoys long walks on the beach, must love dogs, organic foods, yoga, and volkswagens. Just kidding...
I'm a Filipino raised on Guam. First generation Fil-Am. Family-oriented (that includes extended family relations and family-friends, for all you caucasians out there). Happily married husband and father of two.
I value originality and clarity of expression, integrity, and fairness. I believe in the harmony of science and intelligent design, direct democracy, social healthcare, defined benefit pensions, organized labor, social security as it is (I want someone to pay for my retirement too since I have to pay for the Boomers), fully-subsidized secondary education, meritocracy (but only after affirmative action effectively creates a proportionally diverse workplace first), and extra-terrestrials. I'm not a communist, i'm an egalitarian.
Peeves: Double standards. The electoral college. Gerrymandering. Lobbyists. Special interests. Lobbyists for special interests. Ownership societies. Proprietary technology that doesn't conform to universal standards (oxymoronic?). Products that require subsequent purchases to retain any value (i.e. Glade plugin refills, water purifier filters, or swiffer pads). I don't appreciate unsolicited advertising, like trailers at movies that I paid admission for, or previews that can't be skipped on DVD's that I own, or the stupid license plate frames or dealership stickers on YOUR car with your auto dealers name on it. They aren't paying me for my precious advertising real estate.

My Interests

Interested in all things Filipiniana. Love to read, aspiring auto-didact. Filipino Martial Arts enthusiast but i've taken Capoeira, Tae Kwon Do, Judo, Fencing and love learning all manner of fighting arts. Running. Love to travel. Graphic Design, Illustration, Deejaying, nature freak esp. tropical and marine flora and fauna. I dunno... That's it I guess.

I'd like to meet:

The people that I meet, when i'm walking down the street, They're the people that you meet each day. Now THESE are the people in your neighborhood... and Jessica Alba.

Music:

Island reggae! New Wave. ChaCha (Guam style). Hiphop. Alternative. Slow Jams (not ballads, there is a difference). Bedroom DJs & MCs, and any artist who writes, performs, and masters thier own music. Not feeling cookie-cutter entertainers a.k.a. artists that have thier songs written and arranged for them, dance movements choreographed for them, and target audience chosen for them.

Movies:

Waiting, Office Space, Clerks, Pushing Tin, City of God, Crash, Fighting Black Kings, Star Wars sextilogy. Movies with Owen Wilson or Wil Farrell in 'em. Oooh, all kinds of J-Horror and asian supernatural stuff. Non-fiction movies based on real events and the lot, esp. documentaries that make you say "Wow, that's interesting, I didn't know that."

Television:

Jeopardy!, Daily Show!, Man Show, Win Ben Steins Money, SNL, The Office, The Wire, Sopranos, Kids in the Hall, NGC, Discovery Channel (all of them), Comedy Channel, etc. Not so big on TV'ing... but I like the digital music channels.
I hate any show that critics describe as "heartwarming" or "feel-good".
OMG, I really hate TFC (although the dancing girls on Wowowee are eye-candy). TFC programming is gay, overly-dramatic (O.A., Arte', or whateva you wanna call it), and has the simplest form of humor I have ever seen televised. It shames me. Why can't flips do SNL. Why would I want to watch programming that will make me cry. Shoot, I could make you cry for free if it made you feel good.

Books:

Anything non-fiction except autobiographies which I think are gay (the very concept is vainglorious). The O'reilly definitive guides are the *ish*. Book of Five Rings, Art of War, Seven Martial Arts Classics of China, etc. Kwaidan and related topics by Hearn. Too many to name, and no subject matter in particular.

Heroes:

Distance Best Time
1M 00:06:23
5K 00:24:46
10K 00:51:17
½ Marathon 01:58:27
Marathon LOL!
