I edited my profile at Doobix.com
Myspace LayoutsI started collecting records when I was fourteen by saving my dinner
money from school to buy the latest tunes at shops like City Sounds & Groove
Records,London. Jazz-Funk/Soul steered me in the right direction of funky
whistles & South London make some noise!!
When I was sixteen and after watching Quadrophenia I bought a Vespa scooter with mirrors etc .The mod scene introduced me to the Sixties side of soul by going to
scooter rallies & a club called the "Bizz",London.
After several years along came "Talkin Loud" at Dingwalls, Camden Town with D.J.'s Gilles
Peterson & Patrick Forge which was a real eye opener.People were dancing to
Ramsey Lewis,Marcos Valle & Art Blakey, truely unforgetable afternoons.
This influenced me to start DJing in Guildford at a place called The
Underground. Then onto a night called Soul Furnace with the legendary Ian
Clark. It was there I met Richard Jay & Kevin Moxom(K.J.)
We formed a night called Connected Vibes which later became the Melting Pot at Pews bar.We also played at a
small cavern club called the Cannon which went down a storm as people were
traveling from all over the home counties to see our night. We also hosted a weekly show on "Kane U.K." radio.Good luck to Nomis and co. in getting a permanent licence.
I later did another night called Stomped & Wasted with Ian Clark & Malcolm
Taylor but this time involving live music. It was great being able to support
local Acid Jazz bands from the area.Continuing on upstairs at Bojanglez I supported The "Wok" Club which was without doubt the best Dance night Guildford had ever seen. After a short season playing in Crete I
did a few sessions with Chris Brown & Aud who I admired from the soul weekender
days. The most memorable gig todate was when I played with Stuart Wade from Done To The Bone at The Funky Budda Lounge, downtown Chicago. We also supported his band at the Jazz Cafe,London which was wicked.
Another D.J, musician hero of mine is Snowboy and his "hi-hat" sessions
always great music and dancing.
At the moment I'm enjoying traveling to record fairs in the States as I got
bored with the ones in England and buying online is too easy.I'm also a snob when it comes to original pressings nothing beats finding the real mccoy.
Recently Melting Pot has teamed up with Stuart Wade to do
regular nights at the Guildford Tup.
Hope to see you there.
