My name is Marden Smith. I love Jesus and music. I'm very easygoing, and love to help when I can. I received a certificate in audio engineering from Houston Community College in 2002, and am currently active in my church as assistant audio engineer and drummer (and lovin' it by the way!) What makes it even better is the fact that it's all for the glory of God, so that makes me strive to do my best each time. I've been doing music since I was very young. I taught myself how to play piano and recognize notes and their meaning. I mostly learned playing by ear. As I grew into my early teens, I taught myself how to play the drums. With these skills acquired, I started making my own music tracks with the keyboard/sequencer I had at the time, which was a Yamaha PSR-225. Timbaland and The Neptunes were (and still are) my biggest influences so I duplicated a lot of their tracks just for fun, and to see if I could do it. Once I achieved this, I started to express my own ideas through music. At the end of high school transitioning into college I produced and co-wrote for a local rap group formally named Triple Threat (now called Lethal Connection) in which I was also a rapper and singer. After about three years however, God convicted my heart to use my music as a gift of praise and gratitude to Him, and a blessing to my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. I truly recognize my musical ability as a gift from the Father, therefore I will only use it as a gift to Him as oppose to a talent for others. My music (and prayer) are my main forms of communication with Him, and sometimes the only way I can freely express myself. I have many cultural influences in my music because I listen to a very eclectic selection of music, but I favor Gospel and Jazz the most. I tried to develop my own style over the years, but you can still hear the influential styles of Timbo and the 'Tunes in some of my tracks. I try to take the listener and myself on a spiritual journey through my tracks, but sometimes I just do them to challenge myself. Other times I may do tracks to display my gift to aspiring or established gospel artists and labels, but in the end it's all for the glorification and magnification of God. He gave the ultimate gift of His son for the world, so the least I can do is give Him the gift of my world and life. Now I compose on Reason 4 and the Triton LE (using it as a MIDI controller), and plan to get more equipment in the future. I let my music speak for me so check out these tracks and let me know what you think; my style is urban Christian contemporary with traces of jazz, r&b, hip hop, and rock elements.
