Mumpsie

About Me

Mumpsie began in New Orleans in 2002 with guitarist Alex Nichols and drummer Dan Skarbek. The two friends met in the dorms at Loyola University in New Orleans with the idea to bring explosive rock music to the veins of a city well known for jazz and funk. Inspired by the likes of The Toadies, Modest Mouse and Nirvana, Alex and Dan fused a solid musical relationship centering around hard drumming and catchy licks. They played shows as a duo for over a year until adding bassist Jay Crutti. The band has played 30 shows in New Orleans and now Austin.Mumpsie's sound ranges from kick-in-the-face grunge to trippy overtures to fun, folky diddies. The first LP, The 401(k) Album, was in the process of being recorded when Hurricane Katrina hit and the band relocated to Austin. The 401(k) Album is Mumpsie's first full-length effort and provides raw but catchy tunes on a variety of themes including death, lust, capitalism, drug use, god, grocery stores, and good, fun rock'n'roll. The group plans on finishing the album in Austin with new bassist Brandon Bunch. The 401(k) album will include the previous material as well as new songs inspired by Austin.401(k) to be released independently in Spring 2007. The new songs are more experimental with darker moods. Mumpsie's live shows are known for being loud and emotionally charged.
