The meaning of Kamau's name (Quiet Warrior) lends itself perfectly to his playing. Kamau's unassuming style is not flashy or boastful, but rock solid...that's the quiet side. But the warrior inside can't let you escape without feeling struck by his style. His influences range the gamut of the Black music experience from West African drumming/music to hip-hop, and all points in between. Mostly self-taught, playing bass is in the genes with family members who also play the bass.Kamau was NOMINATED for a Detroit Music Award in 2007, but before then, he laid ground work for his style at Detroit's legendary Cafes Mahogany and Aroma, and currently plays with NADIR's Distorted Soul, MonicaBlaire, and Black Bottom Collective. Kamau has graced stages with jazz group IMPROMP2, Soul Singer Terry Thomas, Hip Hop groups The Maroons and Funktelligence, Rock and Alternative singer Lucas Paul, Reggae great Frankie Paul, Hidden Beach's Mike Phillips, L'Renee, Alison Crockett, Mike E., Motown session legend Joe Hunter, Professor Griff, a host of poets including Regie Gibson, and Poet/MC Toni Blackmon, and many more talented artist.
