About Me

Sascha Groschang, a native of Kansas City, Missouri, is currently pursuing a Professional Studies Degree in cello performance from Mannes College of Music where she studies with Fred Sherry. Sascha holds a bachelor's degree in Cello Performance from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, Conservatory of Music where she served as principal cellist of the Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra and Opera Orchestra. She has served two seasons with the Des Moines Symphony where she has had the priviledge of performing with Yo-Yo Ma, Itzhak Perlman, Nadia Salerno-Sonnenburg, Johnathon Biss and Robert Levin. She held an associate position in the Civic Orchestra of Chicago for the 2006-2007 season and currently serves as principal cellist for the Mannes Orchestra.
Sascha has performed 10 solo recitals and has played for Congressman Emmanuel Cleaver (MO), Governor Bob Holden (MO) and has been a featured performer for the United States Department of Labor. She has appeared at Carnegie Hall twice, once under the direction of composer Lukas Foss with the National Youth Symphony (associate principal), and has participated in the Banff International Orchestra Festival. She has performed with the Trans-Siberian Orchestra and has frequently collaborated with composer Mark Hayes.
She has received scholarships from Mannes College of Music, the Aspen School of Music, the University of Kansas City and the Mayfield Towns Memorial Scholarship Fund. She is a Kodak Young Leader recipient, a MO-ASTA finalist in 2000, and served four years in the Missouri All-State Orchestra (associate principal). She was a member of a professional "gig" quartet in Kansas City, MO from 2000-2006, where she performed in hundreds of weddings and social functions. She also has over ten years of teaching experience and many of her students have earned "I" ratings at regional and state contests and have gone on to pursue music at colleges such as the University of Missouri and Wichita State University.
As a chamber musician, Sascha has worked with members of the Orion String Quartet, the Mendelssohn String Quartet, the Mannes Trio, Margo Garrett, Jacob Lateiner, Donald McGinnis and Leon Fleisher. In 2005, she participated in a series of chamber music concerts with members of the Kansas City and Des Moines Symphonies and currently serves as a graduate assistant in chamber music at Mannes College of Music.
As a vocalist Sascha worked as a cantor for Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church from 2003-2006 and has appeared as a soloist in some of Kansas City's biggest churches such as Unity Temple on the Plaza and Center for Spiritual Living. She has also appeared as a vocal soloist with the Kansas City Symphony.
A proud member of local 802 American Federation of Musicians, Sascha resides in Brooklyn with her partner and their two persian cats.
