And a Brand New Song: Seaside!
In 2005, Jeff Luker, Jordan Bondurant, Kevin Alber, and Garrett Johnson started practicing songs together to perform at their high school talent show. The show was a huge success with the students, and encouraged the group to stay together.
In the summer that followed, Jeff and Jordan began writing songs together with the help of Kevin Alber. Eventually, the four of them became a tight nit group musically and personally. They played shows at the Roseland and Satyricon in Portland, the Skyview Auditorium in Vancouver, Washington, and at various house parties. With every show, the boys’ popularity increased and they decided to record a CD.
The deal was made between the boys and Jim Olson of Columbia River Records. Mr. Olson was impressed with their sound and decided to produce the group who had come up with the band name, Mercury Blue. Soon after the agreement, Jim Olson made some outstanding modifications to their sound; he suggested that Jeff and Jordan sing simultaneously and harmonize together. The result was a uniquely powerful sound that was still catchy and had lots of heart.
As Mercury Blue's experience and synergy increased, the band had a number of realizations... epiphanies, if you will. With his combination of power and poise, Jordan became the lead singer. Jeff, after purchasing a new, top-of-the-line instrument, transformed his playing style into a lead, sweetening note machine, as apposed to his old rhythm-ful ways. Some new, low end magic (beans?) was added with the help of a brand new bassist: Jack "The Beanstalk". With so much talent under their sleeves, things were looking up for Mercury Blue!
