From an early age, listening to Hitchins Finest sound systems Black Terror and Sir Lord Newcombe. Joined Amegus Downbeat for a while (until the resin set in!!!).Started frequenting Hatters for my first fix of Jazz, Electro and 80's Soul courtesy of Chris Forbes and Roger Johnson (Richard, you still owe me for 2 taxi fares back to Hitchin).JazziFunk at the Horseshoe was next, continuing when they moved to the Electric Ballroom. And then came Dance Wicked.First residency at the Red Hart with Howard Harper. Lasted 10 minutes at the Regal before the nerves hit!!!Started the weekender thing with Caister 10 (boy WHAT an introduction!!!)Lab One formed with Ivan (Colonel Steamie) and his double deck system (small but perfectly formed). The system eventually grew with great help from Eddie Clark, Barrington joined in the fun and memorable parties were had in and around Hitchin, bringing the soul, hip hop, boogie and grooves smack bang in the middle of what was Reggae central (Walsworth Rd, Nightingale Rd, Jeanette's in Westmill, and the first 2 at RAF Chicksands being memorable highlights).Odd travels to Stevenage (to play against Doug Osbourne and some "Mixmaster J" bloke in Bowes Lyon) and St Albans to deal with Positive Force and Music Incorporated (hey, it was all about the competition in them days).Went to the UK DMC heat in Bristol one year, first time I had seen so many scratch dj's in one place, came nowhere.
Next year, entered the London heat and won (thanks CJ for not being there), upsetting Croydons finest and Mixmaster J. The finals were a bummer though, came nowhere!!!Too much time spent in record shops back in the day trying to buy what I was hearing (from Harveys by Finsbury Park station, Daddy Kool For the rub-a-dub, via City Sounds to Bluebird (first Church Street then Edgware Rd, then Catch-A-Groove, Soul2Soul and Hardcore in Stevenage). The archiving of the vinyl is ongoing (good excuse to avoid e'X'crutiating Dancing Factor Zero and its ilk!!!).
Still trying to get to grips with this net stuff...Recently bought Traktor Scratch at the BPM expo (and downloaded Traktor DJ as per the special offer). Still got to use...
Just to let you know, I edited my profile with Thomas Myspace Editor V4.4 (www.strikefile.com/myspace) but looking at the results so far, it could take a while!!!
