I think that words are some of the most interesting things. I just like the way certain words sound, and I get excited when I learn a new word. I like the way that a word can sound like what it describes (like slide, or blob), and that the way someone says a word can say a lot about them. I could spend hours reading the dictionary and I in no way feel embarrassed about that. There's no such thing as my favorite word, but right now the first one that comes to mind is lilt. That's a pretty good one. Oh, and yesterday, the word of the day was "wisenheimer", meaning smart-ass, which I promptly displayed for my chuckle benefit. "Effulgence" is great too, it means "radiant splendor". Oh, and "bludgeon" and "drudge". I LOVE those!
Who I'd Like to Meet: Sometimes I actually like to do laundry. These days usually find me on Sundays when I have done nothing all day besides watch movies and possibly bake banana bread. So, these days are rare. Usually I dislike doing laundry because my apartment is the absolute furthest point from the laundry room. However, the washing machine IS convenient, and it does smell REALLY good when it's done, and I have a good, overall sense of accomplishment. Ultimately, I have one person to thank for not having to find the nearest river, scrub the crap out of my jeans on an old-fashioned washboard, and spend days upon days with pruny hands. That man's name is William Blackstone, who built the washing machine as a birthday present for his wife in 1874. Good gift? I think not. But today it helps me. So I guess I wouldn't mind meeting him and saying thanks, as well as give some pointers to on birthday gifts for loved ones.
Bluegrass.
I have tried to get into T.V. a few different times. But I always turn it off because I get distracted and find myself wanting to do something else. I think I'm kind of into documentaries right now, although I never thought I would say that. Being out of school now, I've found that learning new things has been a big priority for me. I don't feel that is fulfilled watching reality television. But I will absolutely not judge you if you like it:)
My favorite author is Vladimir Nabokov. He describes simple objects and situations that everyone is familiar with in a new and fresh way. Like an apple, laughter, or skiing. I appreciate that. I have a book of short stories of his that I love. It's probably time to branch out because he's been my favorite for a while. I always wish I had more time to read books. Books on tape are good - and I don't care what anyone says, it's definitely not "cheating".
My Mom and Dad. I respect sincerity and true love, and not being afraid to cry, and saying what you mean. They are a perfect example of always being true. I think that is amazing.
