Being an avid blues listener and having played with a blues band, Chris was up for the challenge. He already had an extensive blues library at home and would gladly host and produce a one hour blues radio show.It took a couple days to make a final decision but Chris got his wish and began hosting and producing a live radio show on Saturday, January 5th, 1995.Chris titled the show “On the Roadside,” after imagining a image of a little roadside juke joint where all that happens are good times and good music. After two years, the show became a popular Saturday night lineup. The membership support was strong and our members wanted more. With that strong support, Public Radio 88FM went ahead and made “On the Roadside” a weekly two-hour blues program. The show includes all educational aspects of the blues- History, archived recordings, and interviews with blues artists and insight on the music styles. A new segment of the show includes “LIVE TRAX” 15 to 20 minutes of a live concert recording from the past or present. Now, twelve years later Chris, Program Manager handles the daily radio production, public relations, and programming for Public Radio with the commited help of his staff.Chris has also helped to produce family oriented music events such as “Blues on the Hill,” the sneak preview event/fundraiser “The Blues” produced by Martin Scorsese for PBS, concerts held at local venues featuring local and national blues bands.Chris has also had the opportunity to perform with local blues musicians Joe Shull & Chill Bone, Big Brucie & The Maxtones and national and world renowned blues legends Lazy Lester,Guitar Shorty and Texas Johnny Brown. On June 19th 2004, the Mayor of Harlingen, Texas, Rick Rodriguez handed a proclamation to Chris Maley on stage at “Blues on the Hill,” McKelvey Park proclaiming that day as “ON THE ROADSIDE WITH CHRIS MALEY RADIO DAY.” KMBH.org then click on 88FM Live Saturday nights (6pm-8pm central time) to listen online. For airplay: submit cd and bio to: Public Radio 88FM c/o "On the Roadside" 1701 Tennessee Ave. Harlingen, Tx 78550He's All Right On the Roadside All Stars
