PETER DE GIROLAMOBorn the 12th of July, 1980.
He took his degree at DAMS (Arts and Music department) at the Tor Vergata University of Rome, with a thesis entitled ‘synaesthetic paths in jazz’.He gets in touch with music at a very early age and starts studying piano at 6. At the age of 14, while he continues his classical studies on the instrument, he discovers his love for jazz after listening to a concert of Carlo Negroni, with whom he’ll start his jazz studies. In this period, he starts playing around with the ‘Disguise’, a jazz-fusion band. At 20, he perfects his jazz studies with Gianni Aquilino and Claudio Colasazza. In 2002, he starts attending the Umbria Jazz Clinics organised by the Berklee University of Boston and gets an ‘outstanding musicianship’ certificate. That same year, he starts working as a pianist/composer/arranger/computer engineer with WEA spa (World Entertainment Audiovisual) of Rome. In 2003 he’s back at Umbria jazz Clinics where his ‘outstanding musicianship’ is reconfirmed and where he’s chosen by Giovanni Tommaso as the pianist of the ‘Umbria Jazz Clinics Award Group’ that will perform in December 2003 during the Umbria Jazz Winter, hosted in Orvieto. He perfects his modern jazz comping with Russell Hoffman. He meets Gegé Telesforo and starts collaborating at the ‘dj set Telesforo’, with Marcello Surace on drums and Marco Siniscalco on bass. In 2004/05/06 he works at the Celebrate Café in Perugia, for the Umbria Jazz Festival. In September 2004, he produces and arranges the album of Fausto Notorius, an Italian songwriter. The same year, he forms a tribute band to Mingus together with Cosimo Marchese (drums) and Nico Verruccio (bass). In 2006 he starts working at his first solo album, a jazz-fusion work in which he collaborates with Nico Gori (clarinet), and Pippo Matino (bass). That same year, he establishes an independent label, Soulnest, together with Barbara Ottaviani (Baby’ra) and Emanuela Ottaviani, former members of BabyraSoul. Soulnest produces its first single, ‘Miss?orMissing’ composed and arranged by Peter and Baby’ra. In 2006/07 he plays in many festivals around Italy with the Pippo Matino New Quartet, with Claudio Romano (drums) and Paolo Recchia (sax). He also plays with Roberto Schiano and Giulio Martino. In July 2007 comes out his first solo album, entitled ‘253’, in which feature Pippo Matino (bass), Giovanni Imparato (perc.) Nico Gori (clarinet), Baby’ra (voice), Emanuela Ottaviani (voice). In 2007, he features on Pippo Matino latest album. The trio Matino/DeGirolamo/Romano start touring with a tribute band to Joe Zawinul, which comprises Emanuele Cisi (sax) and Amit Chatterijee (guitar). In 2008 Peter plays in the Amit Chatterijee Alliance.
