About Me

Axel Grunnekemeijer was born on the 9th of April 1986 in Oldenzaal and is teacher at the music school Dinkelland. In the year of 2006 he was accepted at the Artez Conservatory. Here he is teached by the well-known Dutch jazz drummer Joost van Schaik and René Engel.
Since 2004, Axel is the drummer of the four headed jazz/funk/soul band Moonflower. With this band he often performs on stage. Besides jazz standards and covers, they also play their own compositions. Moonflower finished second best at the band contest ‘De Oogst van Overijssel’. Axel won the price for best drummer.
Moonflower is not the only band in which Axel is participating. He also played in Paul Leo’s band Frontline in Portugal.
Besides that, Axel plays with many bands at the conservatory. He is also very busy with playing in musicals. He also like studio work. Studiousness and enthusiasm characterise Axel. He is a regular visitor of (jazz) concerts in the Netherlands. “So much to learn on such a very short notice... you must be simply everywhere, experience everything!”
Playing in a great Big Band, writing beautiful compositions, building a reputation with his band; these are al ‘Axellent’ plans for the near future.
In this video I'll end the well known song Chameleon with a drumsolo
