Pawel Papis aka Oxime (born April 5, 1976 in Boleslawiec, Poland) is a Polish DJ who has preformed a number of gigs in several night clubs in Sydney. Oxime settled down in Australia about 6 years ago, where he developed his DJ’s skills. At first, he learned DJ’s basics on his Technics 1200 turntables and 2 channels Numark mixer in 2002. At the beginning of 2004 he started to play from CDJ players. At the same time, he also purchased the Pioneer DJM-600 mixer. Within a few months, Pawel recorded his first progressive-tribal-funky-house promo mix, which received a very warm welcome from patrons at several parties.
Pawel developed an interest in music when he was 10 years old. At this age he received his first cassette player. From that day he started his collection of music. At first, he targeted polish rock bands such as Maanam or Republika. Later, he went towards foreign sounds, promoted by bands such as Depeche Mode and The Cure. Pawel was quite a fan of Depeche Mode.
At the age of 14, Pawel had his first opportunity to hear some dance orientated tracks in a local night club. Ever since, Pawel’s gone towards electronic music. Music television stations such as Viva TV or MTV were promoting rave music at that time. These two TV channels , especialy Viva TV, had a significant influence on Pawel’s further progress into electronic music. Pawel recorded the first few editions of Mayday Festival broacasted from Germany on this channel to re-watched this event over and over again. Whilst watching djs such as Carl Cox, Josh Wink or Marusha, Pawel set his dream to possess skills such as those djs.
Since then, Pawel started to collect all kinds of electronic and dance music that could suit a night club in his own city. In the early 90’s he had his first opportunity to organise parties in his school. These parties were a great success with an approximate attendance of 400 people at each party. Pawel Papis’ track selection had a major impact on this success. As at that time the school didn’t have any professional dj’s equipment, so Pawel had to play the music utilising cassette decks.
In 2002 Pawel went aboard for further study. Sydney in Australia was his choice. This big city gave him easier access to vinyls and professional dj’s equipment. As he also was a part time worker during his studies, he had earned enough money to purchase himself two 1200’s Technics decks and 2 channels Numark mixer. At that time Pawel met his future friend Mariusz. Pawel was studing dj’s techniques mostly by himself at home. However, there were many evenings that he spent improving his skills along with his mates such as Mariusz and Lukasz.
