About Me

INCUS RECORDS PRESENTS:
"A Whole Blue World of Infinite Change"
Spirituality and Sexuality are fundamental explorations in life- at least they have been for me as long as I can remember. Feeling and being grounded/centered in both areas on a moment to moment basis is key in experiencing a life of overall fulfillment, in my opinion. All the works that are produced/channeled through me are reflections of various aspects of the Divine as ways of doing my part to help push humanity above and beyond our greatest expectations of Love, Life. Topics touched on in weekly guidance column on my website: www. infinitechange. net
BIO:
Kristyn “Blue” Simmons performs her own original music at venues in and around the Philadelphia region. She has been writing songs for 10 years and performing them for over 6 years. Starting in ’06, she began teaching herself acoustic guitar and producing beats. She’s an aspiring filmmaker and self-published author as well. Her autobiography, “My Love, Life” is now available globally for purchase here plus through Amazon, Barnes & Noble and others. Though painting is a passion and currently, bodypainting is a passion being explored, she chooses to focus her energies primarily on writing, music and film. Blue is what many in the art community have called a true, modern-day Renaissance woman. There are few willing to be as honest, open, provocative, political, spiritual, intellectual, sensual and impassioned as she, who prefers to go by her chosen name- Blue, which she feels is more representative of her essence. There are multitudes of works to come forth from the fountain of inspiration Blue has tapped. From this place, she drinks and lives happily creating works of art to be enjoyed by the masses with the intentions of making the world a healthier and more harmonious place for US ALL.

Telephone: (516) 652-9918
Johnny Booth is a five-piece progressive metal band based out of both Long Island and Oneonta, NY. The band formed in November of 2007 and have since written and performed a total of 10 original songs. Their compositions are characterized by odd time signatures and experimental ambient interludes. However, Johnny Booth is not committed to one sound and enjoy experimenting as exemplified by their Latin driven instrumental “Beneath the Pillars.” Some of their influences include The Dillinger Escape Plan, Every Time I Die, and Between the Buried and Me. Johnny Booth are known for their electrifying live shows that not only showcase their musicianship but also their intense energy. Performances in their hometowns have secured them a strong and loyal fan base as well as headlining slots for local shows. In the summer of 2008, Johnny Booth recorded their debut EP “Sagua” at RQR Studios in Pittsfield, Ma. Their music along with other merchandise can be bought through their myspace page.
Johnny Booth is Adam Halpern on guitar, Andrew Herman on vocals, Adam Ingoglia on drums, Steve DiModugno on bass and Ryan Strong on guitar.

East Hundred got started in Philadelphia when local film student Beryl Guceri tapped her good friends, Brooke and Will Blair, to score her latest project. The brothers were accomplished touring and recording musicians new to the Philadelphia area. They wanted to start a new project; however, finding the right vocalist was proving difficult. But over the course of their filmic collaboration, all three sensed the musical sparks between them. Beryl had never sung with a group before, but she was passionate and fearless. An initial test track was quickly recorded. It was all they needed to be certain of the chemistry here. Their sound was already developing. "It's like Fila Brazilia sleeping under the bridge with Mazzy Star," somebody remarked. The trio scratched their heads at that one and kept writing. In April of 2005, the group released a self-titled seven-song EP. Two additional players- Dave Sunderland on bass, and Susan Gager ..s- were added to fill out the live sound. East Hundred began performing regionally in Philadelphia, New York, Baltimore, and D.C. and quickly built a loyal fan base. As a front person, Beryl is disarming and instantly likable- sincere and playful in equal measure. Her hauntingly beautiful voice moves organically within the cinematic soundscapes, complimenting without dominating. The band plays with an energetic precision that's always mindful of the plaintive vulnerability at the core of the songs. They gig and rehearse tirelessly. Their sound continues to develop. In the summer of 2006, East Hundred began work on a new recording at Turtle Studios in Philadelphia. Good friend, and local artist, Devin Greenwood helped in producing the four songs, and after a quick trip to Chicago, to mix the songs with John McEntire (Tortoise, Sea and Cake), "Copper Street Performer", was released in February. The band's second independant release captures their dynamic live presence. "It's like Blonde Redhead shoplifting from Billy Corgan's deli and getting arrested by Cat Power!" someone remarked. They all scratched their heads and kept writing...
SIX EYES REVIEW!!!!!!
East Hundred is an electronically textured pop band from Philly. Their lush little 7 song EP has been one of the high points of the last few months for me. No matter my mood it’s hard to be anything but stunned by the beauty of these songs; a remedy for any bad day at the office.Beryl Guceri’s voice is breathtakingly beautiful; a sung “sweet nothing” whispered at just the right moment. The Brothers Blair are a potent songwriting duo. Will’s drumming and programming play off of each other creating a hypnotic rhythm while Brooke’s guitars are layered thick and sweet like honey in tea. Ultimately their secret weapon is their subtlety. Almost no single part of any song overwhelms the listener yet their perfect combination is able to capture and maintain the listener’s attention every time. The overarching sound is a juxtaposition of their digital pop flair and Beryl’s soft voice. Blonde Redhead is an obvious influence. Album opener “Leave It” calls distantly from a fog (the same fog they are shrouded in thanks to Pamela Kim’s design?) before hitting with its ultra catchy guitar hook. “Acquaint” uses a jagged programmed rhythm that I feel takes away from some of Will’s best drumming and one of Beryl’s strongest vocal performances. “Numbers” is perfect and would be a candidate by any label for a first single. “Ruzgar” is able to overcome the (self-inflicted) Turkish language barrier and capture most anyone’s ear, a testament to their marvelous musicianship. Closer “Current Company” is a semi-acoustic piano-driven ballad, tissues not included. If any negative feelings remain I suggest a repeat listen.

Spill! East Hundred
East Hundred has had quite a lot to deal with in the past year. From taking the top spot in one of the city’s biggest music competitions to taking time in the studio to finish their first full-length album, the band is making the most of being on the move, and fans (and music critics) couldn’t be happier. Luckily for Girl About Town, East Hundred is taking something else--the stage this Thursday, April 24th at The Khyber as they join us in celebrating Girl About Town’s annual Spring Fling. We got a chance to catch up with these fast-paced Philadelphians to ask them a few questions about their many upcoming projects, music in movies, and their beef with journalists (And we don’t mean us!)
Girl About Town: First, I gotta say “Congratulations” on recently taking first place at this year’s Philly Sound Clash! How was the experience for you all?
(Will Blair) Thanks so much. The experience was shocking, in the sense that there were so many great bands that night, it really could've gone to anyone. Music, in nature, is about collaboration, and not competition, so the whole thing was bit strange...the "Battle" idea is strange to us. It fits more into sports or politics and less into music. Part of us wanted to split the prize package evenly with the other bands. (However, the other part of us needed to get our new record financed.) But we were just so happy to be recognized, to be appreciated, and to be exposed.
You’ve played with a slew of local bands for the Philly Sound Clash, and worked with some great local musicians on your past albums, such as Devin Greenwood and presently, Brian McTear. What are some other Philly bands you love to share the stage with or would love to share the stage with in the future?
There's a lot of eclectic talent in this city, isn't there? I think that's refreshing...we've enjoyed playing with everyone for the most part really...as long as there's whiskey involved... those are my favorite shows. For the moment we're excited to be sharing a few bills with An American Chinese and look forward to playing with Eastern Conference Champions again....
You all are currently in the studio working on your first full-length album, after having previously released two E.P.s. Is the recording process any different when dealing with a full-length rather than an E.P.? If so, how?
(Will) There are a lot of differences with this new record. Mainly, the inclusion of all 5 of us. The band started as a recording project, with Brooke and Beryl and I, and less of a live band. Dave (bass) and Susan (keyboards), have brought so much to the table over the last few years, and in playing live so much more, that has now become a huge part of our sound. We are now recording as a band, as a 5 piece. This is so exciting for us. Also, in preparing 10 songs for a full length, as opposed to 4 or 5, things get a little spread thin. That’s cool with us. In other words, instead of adding every little perfect texture and sound and noise and part...we just want to get 10 songs to sound like the way they might in our basement, or on stage. 5 people playing in a room...that was what may have been missing from the first two releases.
Beryl, you were a film student at one time and came into music, by accident in a way. And Brooke and William, you both used to score music for films. Do you all feel that your background in film has impacted the way in which the band addresses music? Do you think the visual arts have given you a different perspective?
(Beryl) Actually music was by no means was an accidental direction for me. If anything, I studied film because of music. It was just another less confrontational outlet where I could incorporate making music. I grew up on piano lessons, school orchestras, and other nerdy shit....I do love film and everything about the visual arts. I didn't major in music because I was paralyzed by insecurity - my theory comprehension was poor and I hated competition – that’s not what it’s about for me. Meeting Will and Brooke never felt like an accident (or coincidence) either. I'm positive it was a result of pure creative visualization. They're my ultimate homeboys.
(Will) Brooke and I just finished our first feature film score last year, (check out "Murder Party" online.) It was a totally new experience for us and had us thinking so far outside of the box. I think its given us a new perspective on subtlety, and dynamics. A rock band needs to be heard, but a film score needs to just be absorbed, almost subconsciously, and cannot dominate. But ultimately, both set a mood. East Hundred has always tried to set a consistent mood, not too dissimilar from a film score.
The band recently had the opportunity to be featured in a documentary in which you all were filmed traveling with a, shall we say, “journalist” who was trying to capture life on the road, and instead created a “mockumentary” of sorts, at the band’s expense. You all haven’t been shy about your disappointment both with the “journalist” and the documentary, itself. What lessons have you learned from this experience and do you have any advice for other bands that might find themselves in a similar position?
(Will) Oh, Jesus. Will Kenny. What a complete douche-bag. But here’s the deal. We were touched by the response we got from fans sympathizing with us through that experience. Everyone truly felt we deserved better, and were sorry we were "taken advantage of." But, I wish we posted those videos on April Fools Day.
For the record, I am Will Blair, the drummer for East Hundred, and I am also Will Kenny, the self-proclaimed "Television Journalist." I put on different glasses, a stupid hat, and a tight zip up. I put on a pretentious voice and tone. We thought it would be obvious, especially when Will Kenny appears in a scene with myself. Total in-house parody. Keep in mind, we take our music rather seriously, we take the business of our music, relatively seriously. But we don't take ourselves too seriously. So we were OK making a complete joke of ourselves. We did want to "document" the tour, but really who wants to see another indie-band tour diary. Sleeping on floors, driving, drinking, blah blah. Its been done. This was a way to capture the tour on film, but in a different way. And honestly, there is a lot of down-time on the road. Making this mockumentary, kept us busy and entertained. So thanks for all who supported us, and although there probably are plenty of "Will Kenny" types out there, he doesn't exist. And for the record I'm a nice guy, but if music doesn't work out, I can always fall back on being a complete asshole.
And lastly, what’s your favorite thing about Philly?
(Will) Will Kenny lives in L.A., so I love being as far away from him as possible.
(Brooke) It’s a walkable, small town/big city.
(Susan) The Parking Authority.
(Beryl) The convenience of all the one-way streets
(Dave) The lack of casinos, for the time being...

INCUS RECORDS PRESENTS!! QUINTERO!!!!!!!!!!
Go to:
www.myspace.com/quinteromusic
Quintero is a trip-hop/downtempo quartet based in Philadelphia. Quintero’s members have roots in Colombia, England, Canada, and the States. This broad musical knowledge helps to give Quintero its unique cosmopolitan feel. They provide a dynamic live experience, blending electronica, jazz, and pop. Listeners may recognize a Bristol-sound influence in Quintero’s music, yet also they represent a fresh addition to the budding trip-hop/downtempo scene in Philly. They recently completed a month-long residency at The Fire, one of Philadelphia’s premiere venues for emerging bands. The Forbidden World, Quintero’s debut and self-produced LP, was released in May.
Quintero is the collaboration of Ishmael Quintero and Bevin Caulfield. Yielding from vastly different places, Ish from the mountains of Colombia, South America, and Bevin from the woods of South Jersey, USA, the two have come together on the same plane to form music that is both moving and meaningful. The duo does not have any rules when it comes to making music other than it conveys truth of feeling, ideas, and musical tastes. Bevin Caulfield, a Villanova graduate, has been a part of the Philadelphia singer/songwriter scene for the past few years. She grew up playing classical piano and singing in church. Ish moved from his homeland to Canada where he studied sound engineering and later he rather ended up in Philadelphia. He has since put out three electronica/trip hop albums. The album was made by the two of them in Ish's Chinatown apartment in Philadelphia. The original title for the album was, "The Forbidden Word." The word was "love" and this was Ish's concept before he started working with Bevin. She, however, did happen to use the forbidden word a few times, so the title just didn't fit...Bevin suggested the title "The World" which is also the name of one of their tracks and she felt that this album did have a more worldly view, as opposed to the more personal tracks in her solo project. Then Ish said, "how about "The Forbidden World"?" and they both just knew it was right. "The Forbidden World" now takes on many meanings. Many of the songs are about the life of an artist, and this life often feels forbidden when dealing within the confines and expectations of society. "Forbidden" also applies to the electronic characteristics of the album, the beats, ear candy... When they decided to take the tracks to a live setting, they searched for the right players and soon found Mattew Bell (Drums), hailing from the UK, aiding in his knowledge of Trip-hop and downtempo music and Dan Putrino (Bass), holding it all down. The band has been lucky with help from outside sources, such as Caryn Lindsey, esq., who helped produce the album and Peter Humphreys who mastered the album at Masterworks Inc. in Philadelphia.
“The Forbidden World” was released in May 2007. Quintero comes from the word "quinta" which means farmstead, and a quintero is someone who works the land. Indeed, the Earth is our common ground.

INCUS RECORDS PRESENTS MURDER HOUSE:

MurderBio
For four Philadelphia-based musicians, the Murderhouse in historic Germantown (site of a bloodcurdling double-homicide that occured in the early 90s) has become production facility, as well as home, to a truly original group of artists.
Andrew Walls, Angelo Delquadro, Daniel Kennedy and Ian Mayer are the last musicians in Philly that still believe in making pure, scalding, face-melting prog/metal/fusion-influenced rock music. The best way to describe their sound is to liken it to an alien spacecraft passing overhead. Born utterly out of the Philly "scene" yet invariably sticking out like sore thumbs, the band, originally formed during the last smouldering days of the 20th century, reformed in 2006 and began cutting it’s teeth with relentless performances at local venues.
Originally the ’Murder House Trio,’ then ’Murder House Band’ and finally just ’Murderhouse,’ the group, in its past, has included multiple horn players and singers. These days, their rhythm section instrumentation stems from a willingness to let the music tell the story, for their music has plenty to say even without words- whether borrowing from jazz and latin themes or from hard rock, every song takes the listener on a unique journey.
The absence of vocals has also made it possible for the music to avoid fitting into any one genre or niche, while maintaining exceptionally high levels of energy, with all the raw power of grunge, the experimentalism of psychedelic rock, and the sophistication of a Frank Zappa composition. Consequently, their listeners tend to be as diverse as the music is.
Murderhouse is dedicated to the furtherance of musical enjoyment everywhere. Their mission is to make the world better, one note at a time. They really respect you as a human being, and they think you smell nice. (Except for you, back there, in the purple sweatpants.)
