The Speaker
For years, Deya has traveled throughout the United States and abroad to schools, universities and conferences advocating for HIV/AIDS prevention, high self-esteem and civic and political participation. Deya, a powerful motivational speaker and social commentator has been featured on national tours as well as syndicated television discussing and debating today’s hot topics.
The Advocate
Deya's political aspirations were cultivated as a legislative staffer in the U.S. Senate. She went on to work as a lobbyist, successfully advocating for increased federal funding for programs assisting people of color in the U.S. and Africa. Currently, Deya is employed as the Prevention Advocacy & Marketing Manager for the AIDS Healthcare Foundation, the largest AIDS healthcare, prevention and education provider in the US.
In addition to winning the national title of Miss Black USA in 1994, in 1993 she was crowned Miss Black Connecticut. During her reign, Deya served as a spokeswoman for the American Red Cross’ Minority HIV/AIDS program.
Deya received her B. F. A. from Howard University, majoring in theater arts, with a concentration in film and stage and a minor in communications. She is a native of New Haven, Connecticut.
Today, Deya works as a producer for nationally-syndicated Tom Joyner Morning Show.
