About Me

Greetings, The first three songs are from Cheryl Carter's DEBUT CD "HOLD ON TO THE JOY" -- the title song is easy listening with jazz pop sensibilities. “BACKYARD AMERICA” is a soulful Western American Pop flavor ballad "NO MORE PASSIN' THE BUCK" is blues with Killer guitar. Cheryl's vocals on these three songs is very rich and soulful. The last song is a "Classic Rock" song from my days back in 1980something... when even I was singing on the Sunset Strip. It is purely for novelty. ************************************************************ *************************** Here is a sample of the photos I have taken in the last few years.Hard work - but somebody has to do it- so I asked my brother Rick to help. We took a couple of laps around Daytona Speedway. By the way...there's Mario Coumo, Al Sharpton, Ruby Dee, Playmates of the Year and the oh so squeeze-able Traci Bingham...even Kato showed up for my 15 seconds of fame!!!Many of them are photos of live jazz performances in L.A., including Cheryl Carter, and in New York The Manhattan Transfer at Greenwich Village, plus a peek at some Playboy Golf Tournament shots...hey!?!-- who's taking those pictures of me?My latest opportunities include creating and writing a pilot T.V. episode and executive producing Cheryl Carter's Debut CD, "HOLD ON TO THE JOY", featuring easy contemporary originals, with a little Blues, some Latin and Brazilian rhythms, and Jazz stylings. With the title song “HOLD ON TO THE JOY” she combines an easy ballad with jazz pop sensibilities sprinkled with a bit of classical flair. “SENSES”, with its “hip”-notic Brazilian rhythms, weaves a spell of sensual pleasures. “BACKYARD AMERICA” is a soulful Western American Pop flavor ballad that celebrates a time when "life" and "growing up" was simpler -- when, as kids, we couldn't WAIT to get outside and play with our friends in the backyard. When our heroes were as close to us as our own breath. * NEW STANDARD ARTISTS MEDIA is my record label - singer Cheryl Carter is the banner artist. ** The album is produced by Grammy Winner, WAYNE COOK (David Foster, Danny Elfman, Marc Mann, Clive Davis). A stellar roster of players is lead by Gold/Multi-Platinum record holder, WAYNE COOK (Player, Steppenwolf, Yellowjackets, Jackson Browne / writer: “Baby Come Back”) on Piano/B3/Orchestrations, GRANT GEISSMAN (lead guitar on Chuck Mangione's "Feels So Good", Quincy Jones, David Benoit) on Guitar, ALFREDO REYES JR. Band Members: My old bandmates from 1980something are/were Mitch Alt on Lead guitar, Steven Barrett on Rythm guitar and Bass, and my other brother Daryl Perron on drums.
Influences: Aerosmith, David Lee Roth, Jim Dandy (Black Oak Arkansas), and Alice Cooper took the lead in influencing me when we formed as "JP", back in 1980something. *********************************** Nowadays, in L.A., I manage local female vocalist Cheryl Carter, www.soundclick.com/cherylcarter - www.myspace/cherylcartersings - She has recorded with David Foster for Disney and with Harry Belafonte.Backing up Grammy Winner, Michael Bolton, she appeared at the Universal Amphitheatre, Jay Leno’s Tonight Show and Arsenio Hall’s Show. She also sings in Bolton’s "Time, Love, and Tenderness" Music Video.A special joy of hers was appearing as Smokey Robinson’s wife, in the Music Video "Ebony Eyes" duet with Rick James.Nancy Wilson, Ella Fitzgerald and Barbra Striesand are Divas that parted the stars to lead the way for Cheryl Carter.
Sounds Like: Back in 1980something, I sounded like Alice Cooper mixed with Jim Dandy. My younger brothers say "the new guys" sound like me -wow!!******* Friends say Cheryl Carter reminds them of PHYLLIS HYMAN, a terrific singer with a big sound. Jazz Singer, Dwight Tribble, says she is reminiscent of DEE DEE BRIDGEWATER, a Jazz Singer who has lived most of her career in Paris. The timber of their voices are very similar. And... occasionally, Cheryl has some BARBRA STREISAND classical pop flair mixed in.
