Dunholm is part of 'The Vikings', a national reenactment society that covers the lives of the Anglo-Saxons, 'Welsh', Norse and (under extreme circumstances) Normans in the ninth tenth and eleventh centuries. Dunholm is based in Durham, but we recruit from all over the North East, and also have members from Snowden, Cumbria and Poland. We participate in combat (twice monthly training in Durham) and living history. One group member has built a 23ft long boat, and we are working on involving horses more into the group (wayward native horse permitting). The group also includes a number of small children who are fearsome, (if bruising) with wooden swords and shields, but these do have to be accompanied by equivalently fearsome (and/or bruised) parents! By and large, we try and have fun, and generally we succeed. We try and incorporate many leisure activities to the group, such as meals out, group banquets and horse riding sessions.
