I'd like to meet:
I just wanna keep in touch with my mates...
Hey, check out Felicity Groom in my friends list. I've known her for years but never knew she could sing like she does...
Music:
High rotation as of 2 days ago is Paul Kelly and The Stormwater Boys - Foggy Highway. Great vocal harmonies and it's always great to hear Paul's song writing.
I've been playing my new bass and loving it. Lots of Pixies (because it's easy, and it makes me feel like a star) but I've been playing some nice licks from some Curtis Mayfield tracks and today (instead of studying) I've been figuring out Cassius's "Toop Toop". Ripper bass line. I'm trying to nail octaves and become more consistent.
Of course, this is what I'm currently on. Influences are too many to list but range from Tom Waits to DJ Shadow. Rock on!
Movies:
Yes, I like films. Good films. Not shit ones. One's with meaning. Although, occasionally, I like the odd bit of clever crap. I'm a bit of a film snob...
Television:
Insight on SBS with Jenny Brockie is the greatest show in the world at the moment, she's brilliant. Choir of Hard Knocks stopped me watching it though, far out, that was amazing. I'm loving Vasili's Garden on SBS its a ripper too. Carbon Cops should be mandatory. Don't Die Young is great too, she's a star. The ABC has all the best stuff on but I don't really watch heaps of TV...
Books:
I've recently finished "The God Delusion" by Richard Dawkins. I got it because I'd been thinking a lot about religion and had come to a similar conclusion to this book. However it's been hard going and a lot of the arguments are a bit highly strung. I don't think Dawkins is the best guy for this job, he says he's just trying to be factual and not tip-toe around religion but he does come across as quite arrogant. I still believe in the premise of the book though and it has put a lot of my thoughts into words.
Anyway, before this I read the Turning by Tim Winton. He's now overtaken John Steinbeck as my favourite author...
I'm currently reading Orpheus Lost by Janette Turner Hospital.
Heroes:
Alan Corbet. My Mum. Lauren (My lover). Jenny Brockie. Kathrin Wheib. Tim Winton. Tom Waits. Victor Wooten. Dane Alderson. Mark Robertson. Ben Zala. Glen Rollond. Brendan Annear. Alex Gott-Cumbers. Viv Gott-Cumbers. My mates. Andrew Denton. Greg Combet. John Faine. Barnaby Joyce. There must be more... Just came up with a new one - Julian Burnside. Tony Jones was brilliant with The Great Global Warming Swindle! I love good journalism...Toni Hoffman, the Bundaberg whistleblowing nurse, f*cking amazingly strong. Solid!
