Her presence is cunning, her movements are precise, her body--strong, and her voice--pure. It’s what makes Jakia a force to be reckoned with in an industry flooded with one-dimensional artists. She is a 3-fold entertainer in a time when her kind come few and far in between.Jakia has etched her own artistic niche into the candy-coated world of pop. Her voice, soft and strong all at once, is canvassed onto energetic tracks with hard-hitting beats that keep the club thumping and the B-boys breaking. There is a hint of an eclectic thread sewn into her sound that makes her sound so universal, so elastic. It is the element of fun, flirtatiousness and inventive personality.Growing up between the West Coast and Texas, Jakia was always surrounded by music. “My mom sings and as long as I could remember, we were always singing,” she says of her childhood. She absolutely fell in love with the stage in junior high school when she joined the choir, but Jakia was deeply moved make a career of her own talents after witnessing Lauryn Hill live in concert. “It was the connection she had with her audience that inspired me”, she remarks of the experience.Since then Jakia has been developing her own connection to the world through her music. She worked her way through school at the University of North Texas and honed her skills, immersing herself in both the art of music and the business behind it. She sang back-up on tour with Neo-Soul/R&B singer Mahogany and then proved her versatility as an artist when she teamed up with folk-rock singer Dave Yaden for a country music project titled “It’s the Way”.For her latest project “Extra Extra” Jakia collaborated with Grammy Award winning producer Madukwu Chinwah, Erykah Badu f. Common) and his work with Erykah Badu and Soul singer N’Dambi.What has emerged from the fusion of Jakia’s self-intensive training and her passion for music is what the world knows her to be today, a truly talented vocalist, a skilled hip-hop dancer, and the new fresh face of pop/club music.
