The Drome, Promoter of the Henry St club. From punter to promoter 93-96/97. My old mate, DJ trix first took me, was smitten & hooked!Trix had taken over from Dave Graham who had left & gone to work at Club 051 doing a House Night with Si Edwards & Rusty. Within a very short amount of time i started to get to know all the people in the background, those who made things happen!, owners, management, decision makers etc! my First job was distrubuting Flyers, at that stage working closely with the managment Paul & Bonner. within time i was producing all art work and responsible for brand awarness, and of course deciding which Dj's and Pa's we would Book, with major input from residents Trix & Philly, (Philly was later to be 'my Bestman' in 2000, This part of the job was a dream, we would often jump into a car (tuuurbo!)and visit various clubs mainly in London to meet & listen to world finest dj's, these included Laurant Garnier,Jeff mills,Dag,Sven Vath,Joey Beltram,CJ Bolland and drome Favourite Westbam + all the other UK based DJ's, Least of all our old freind Carl Cox, we also had the pleasure of the the cream of the crop in respect of stage show's and P.a.'s, The prodigy, The Jeyenne, ultrasonic, Shades of Rythm, Dream Freq, N-joi,+,+,+ and Trix's ever popular Party People!, (wonder what ever happened to the Conehead with the fog horns???) the rest is history. Paul moved on to manage Carl and Ultimate before setting up his own management company, Good on Ya Dubbsy! It was now my time to captain the ship! We had some fantastic nights some better than others depending on what you liked to listen to? Techno,Trance,Bang'in or Bouncy! That's where Trix & Philly came into their own, they could work the crowd like the best of'em, two unique sounds but with a understanding and respect of what each of them were do'in, Then ther was MC Cyanide...We Aint Go'in out Like that! he would get the place jump'n, Proper!, he worked it best with the more Bouncy stuff in my opinion!, he too was part of the Fabric that was and is the drome. I have thousands of special memories regarding the club and i know there are thousands of like minded people, Two of the best nights that stand out in my mind are New Years Eve 95, Trix had Just Done another legendry 2 hour set, 'he is without any hesitation the master of Scratch! Europes Number 1!..,' it was change over just before Midnight, i had arranged a surprise at Midnight, I Got a Bagpipe player in his kilt on Stage at midnight to bring in the new year, he played live through the PA, for Philly to mix & drop Perplexer at the end, only Philly's talent could make it happen!.. Classic moment! the place went through the roof. The other was when i managed to persuade philly back into the club after a fall out over the music policy with the club owners!.. The drome had the Worlds best DJ's Play on it's 3 technics, some with more success than others, when we first put The Reunion on, on 22nd July 1995 it was a testament to what many of us already knew and that was the drome really loved their residents DJ Trix & DJ Philly along with MC Cyanide.I know that that night was the clubs most successfull night, under the ownerhip of Alan & Cliffy, we had over 2500 people in, Those of you that where there MADE HISTORY! and i salute you! i was and still am very proud of that one! you where the best crowd in the land, i never saw a club move the way the drome did, we had over 32000 watts of amazing sound, and awsome lights, Chris Tetley he's the fella who made, yes made the clubs lazer's and created all the other tech stuff, CT is a Legend! along with all the other people involved, Shoot'da, Tony, the door, bar staff, Jackie, dave Bell, Howard, Alley Cats Cafe, others include Big Mo, Hobbs Bros, Duggy, KSK, Mandy, Grab, Mad Mick,P, Littledale Rd, Elgin, (thank you for the use of the washing machine! it sounded great!)Spen, both ov'em, Kev, Buzz, Andy, Dale, Tony, Andi, Vyper, Romski, Matty and the boys, Lee, Nikki, oh! and the chewy girl! including the inspiration from Dave Ralph!.. soz if i missed ya!..... After much deliberation i left the club to go and promote a new club, Time & Space (Sat) in Staffs, sadly the drome closed it's doors for the last time just short of twelve months after i left..... I was chuffed to bits that after over 10 years a new Reunion took place in Liverpool in july, Just a shame that it could'nt be at the original venue, and be with some of the people who are no longer with us, KSK rip M8! Could that special atmosphere be recreated in another venue? ======================================= The 7th July was a good night! It was great to see and meet up with all those old faces and funny to see'em a little bit older, wiser but yet still gurning!(and that's just some of the DJ's!!!)It was also good to see a new generation of people who had heard the storeys! and wanted to experience the unique atmosphere for themselves but for me and a few others it could'nt be as good as the original in Birkenhead, There just was'nt the same vibe, Maybe it was because it was the first Saturday since the smoking ban came into force, there was some serious biting of nails, Even Philly did'nt drink because he could'nt smoke, but also there was No Lazers, Sound issues, Tech Probs with decks, No Light Jock, and no Hint of any Drome Stuff,(CT, we missed ya!)) i suppose i was dreaming to think it could have any hint of the original Henry St Club, Next time it should be in a bigger venue, one that has a stage!....Nation maybe? The 700/800 who turned up are proof that there is a demand for this type of night, but not to often! One thing for sure was that DJ Trix still has it! he was as good as he ever was if not better! New DJ'ing kit allows him to really do his stuff! When he came on it was obvious that's what the majority of people had come for, encouraged by Cyanide's MC'ing the place went mental, just like the good old days, It was also great to see Philly behind the decks once again, he played some classic Drome anthems along with some new stuff, still keep'n an eye on things!.... The Drome will always have a special place in my head & heart, I'm privilaged to have been involved with the team who made it what it was when it was at it's best! Will there be another night? I THINK SO!!! But next time bigger and better! What do ya think Max? (aka WESTBAM!) ======================================= If you Have any old Pics and stuff or story's you want to share of the original Club and want to show them on myspace please send them to me, see ya soon Steady. PS this myspace is dedicated soley to the drome! it's good to have the memories, what's gone on is history! times change and so do we!... long live the Memories!!.
