Brooklyn girl Gina Fletcher, daughter of the late Sam Fletcher, Jazz vocalist, started singing at an early age at Washington Temple Church Of God In Christ, Brooklyn.
Gina matriculated at City College and majored in Psychology. Although Gina was born to sing, she had a natural inclination to counsel, encourage & advocate for people. She was employed in the field of human services; servicing the homeless, parolees, substance abusers, single mothers, victims of domestic violence and at-risk youth.
Although effective in human services but her desire to sing was growing stronger. She was hired on the weekends & evenings to sing at home-goings, weddings, birthday parties, talent shows & eventually auditioned for Amateur night At The Apollo and won, twice!!Gina was hired to sing background and tour with major reggae artists: Frankie Paul, JC Lodge, John Holt, Carlene Davis & was vocal trainer for Morgan Heritage, the children of reggae artist, Denroy Morgan. She became a highly requested studio vocalist, known to complete four part harmony tracks in one take.
For a while Gina settled down and focused on raising her son, Isaiah. So she started writing songs. In 2000 Gina joined St. Paul’s’ Community Baptist Church, East New York, where Dr. Johnny Ray Youngblood is the pastor. The creative, nurturing environment at St. Paul’s is where Gina became motivated and encouraged to fulfill her dream, SING!
Gina entered a competition at The Soul Cafe in Manhattan and won. Due to her huge fan base, she was asked to host an Open Mike on Sunday afternoons, Sugarhill's in Brooklyn and Club Canticles on friday nights. She would invite unknown talent, comedians, poets, dancers, authors, motivational speakers & singers to come and express themselves.
The Central Brooklyn Jazz Consortium heard about Gina and she opened for Gary Bartz to kick off theri season. April 2004. As a result of her awesome performance and interaction with the crowd, she became a regular entertainer at Jazz 966, Fulton Street, Brooklyn.Dr. Johnny Ray Youngblood, allowed Gina to spread her creative wings and she wrote the church’s “Welcome Songâ€, sung to welcome the visitors on Sunday mornings. She was a cast member of The MAAFA, 2006 and played Elizabeth in “Unto Us, A Child Is Born†2006 & 2007. She wrote the theme song for St. Paul’s Black Christian Women’s Conference held in Grapevine, Texas, 2007 and two other songs for the event.
