The History of Mound of the DeadMoenjo Daro (in English meaning "mound of the dead") is one of the oldest Archaeological finds in the world.Moenjo Daro was discovered in 1921 in Indus Valley and dates back to 2500 BC.On the banks of the Indus river thrived a civilization of great culture and prosperity in it's time. The archaeological find reveals seven layers of the city showing destruction and reconstruction. The excavation discovered that the civilization centered upon two metropolitan cities Moenjo Daro and Harappa. The two cities communicated by river, providing a natural highway. The excavation remains at two distinct levels fortified by mud brick walls 40 feet thick and tapering upwards to the height of 30 to 40 feet. The upper level was where the rulers and dignitaries must have lived. In the lower town we find well planned streets and private dwellings. The houses are two stories and are built of brick and mud plastered walls. The center of the city is a great Bath measuring 39 feet by 23 feet made out of Brick with steps on each end leading down to the water, there is a promenade as well as cubical for bathers. Also discovered was a wealth of gold and silver ornaments and precious stones copper pots and various tools and hardware. The people of Moenjo Daro revealed great artistry and exquisite engraving on steatite called the Moenjo Daro Seals. The evidence shows that about the middle of the second millennium BC the Civilization came to a sudden and tragic end.The seal shown on the MOD logo is called the Shaman. The horned masked Shaman is siting in a yoga position on the throne with two deer facing each other below. The Shaman with his four faces can see the Elephant the Tiger and the Rhinoceros and the Water Buffalo in each quadrant where he is drawing his power.
