PERSONAL INFORMATION:
Full name is David Maurice Robinson.
He and wife Valerie have three boys, David Maurice, Corey Matthew and Justin Michael.
Known as the Admiral.
Wears a size 17 Nike.
Scored a 1,320 on the SAT College Board Exam.
Played just one year of high school basketball at Osbourn Park in Manassas, Virginia.
Holds a bachelor's degree in mathematics from the Naval Academy.
Grew seven inches while at the Academy.
Forced to sit out two seasons after graduation as he served in the Navy from 6/87 to 5/89 at Kings Bay, Georgia.
Has completed his Naval obligation.
Has a sister, Kimberly, and a brother, Charles, who is also a Naval Academy graduate.
David and Valerie created the David Robinson Foundation in November of 1992.
The Foundation is a Christian organization whose mission is to support programs which address the physical and spiritual needs of the family.
David and Valerie have donated $9 million to help create the Carver Academy, an independent school designed to serve pre-kindergarten through eighth grade students who live primarily on the eastside of San Antonio … the school - which will eventually accommodate up to 290 children - opened on 9/17/01 with 60 students (in pre-k through second grade).
The Carver Academy will offer "a challenging academic program that features small classes, leadership opportunities and a nurturing family-like atmosphere based upon the foundation of Judeo-Christian scripture".
A 1998 inductee into the World Sports Humanitarian Hall of Fame, along with Pele and Jackie Joyner-Kersee.
Honored with The Sporting News 1999 Good Guys in Pro Sports Award.
Received the 1999 Montblanc de la Culture Award, the first athlete and youngest recipient in the award’s history.
Given a Patriot Award from the Congressional Medal of Honor Society in September of 2000.
A member of the Texas Sports Hall of Fame.
Purchases a group of 50 tickets to each Spurs home game for his Mister Robinson's Neighborhood of Achievers program (over 15,000 students have attended games since he started the program his rookie season).
