About Me

http://i353.photobucket.com/albums/r377/innescampbell/IMG_15 08.jpgHello and welcome to my page. I’m a musician who has a day job. I hope you enjoy my stuff, some of which was recorded with my band The Big Blue Fish (www.myspace.com/thegrassyknollband) and some of which was done at home, by myself. If you can figure out how to download the mp3s feel free to do so, I’m not doing this for money. If you’re interested in some sort of musical collaboration please feel free to get in touch. My email address is [email protected]. I live in Brisbane, Queensland... .. .. .. .. .. .. ..

My Interests

Music:

Band Members: Innes CampbellContact me at:[email protected]
Influences: Beck, Iron and Wine, Nick Drake, Tony Rice, Aphex Twin, Autechre, Boards of Canada, Thom Yorke, Radiohead, (Smog), Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, The Audreys, Tim O'Brien, Norman Blake, Doc Watson,Cake , Gillian Welsh, Bill Monroe, Hickory Project, The Lawnmowers, Dan Crary, Hayseed Dixie, Nickel Creek. I like bluegrass, especially guitar - driven bluegrass and I like electronica when it's done well - but I love to hear live music especially. I also like my brother Rory's music and loads more...... too many to mention
Sounds Like: I play the guitar first and foremost. I sound like a bit of a meat and potatoes flatpicker; not particularly fancy and there are certainly those who play faster and with more flair. I have tried to concentrate on getting good tone and being able to hear all of the notes I play. I hope that I sound tasteful in what I play when I flatpick. There is blues in what I play (as there is in bluegrass generally) but you might hear the odd jazz influenced sound here and there such as 9th and 6th chords (sorry if I'm getting too technical here) and I have started to experiment modally in my soloing (using Dorian and myxolidian) - this has come about since I started getting into gypsy jazz. I sing too and love singing. I can't sing too well in an American accent though which is a shame since bluegrass is the music I love most! I write songs - though some are rather maudlin and do not feature on this page. I have a sidekick called Darryl and we are currently trying to bully a bass player into being in our band. We are coming at ya this year as The Grassy Knoll so look out!
Record Label: No - all stuff recorded at home, in my garage

Redlands, Django, and Darryl

The bluegrass festival at Redlands Bay was over very quickly this year. For me it was the best one so far and there are probably a number of reasons for this - there were loads of fantastic music...

Big Sandy River

I finally went out and bought a pick up for my guitar at the weekend. I've always avoided using a pick up - the sound it gives you doesn't much sound like the sound of an acoustic guitar, more like an...
