About Me

Raised in Toronto, Ailsa started working professionally in Scotland, singing with her own quartet and others at Edinburgh's major jazz clubs - Henry’s Jazz Cellar, The Bongo Club, The Hub and The Bridge Jazz Bar.Ailsa has been featured twice at the Edinburgh International Jazz Festival; she has worked with the best of the Scottish jazz scene including renowned pianists Brian Kellock and Paul Harrison, guitarists Haftor Medboe and Ged Brockie, and the Brazilian bassist Mario Caribe.She studied at the Fionna Duncan Vocal Jazz Workshops with Sheila Jordan and Madeline Eastman through a professional development grant from the Scottish Arts Council.Since returning to Toronto she has appeared at Lisa Particelli’s “Girls’ Night Out” singer showcases, with Whitney Smith at "Jazz Cab" at the Anabella Lounge in Cabbagetown, and at The Trane Studio with Chris Greive, Cathie Rae, Adrean Farrugia and Ross MacIntyre.Influenced by Mel Torme and Peggy Lee, Ailsa likes to sing good songs with wonderful melodies and lyrics that make people feel good.www.myspace.com/ailsamccrearyjazz“Natural, unaffected girl-next-door approach, lightness of touch and careful phrasing, staying just the right side of breathy” (Andrea Mullaney, Edinburgh Evening News)If you would like to hear a couple of tunes from my recent gig at the Trane in Toronto, please go to my new music myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/ailsamccreary
