Lirico-spinto tenor Brian Landry received accolades of highest praise reserved only for the top tenors of the world after performing the title role in his first Otello with Union Avenue Opera in St. Louis, MO. Just prior to the Otello, he was equally triumphant in Boston with his premier of Turandot in the role of Calaf. Here is an excerpt from a review written by Ali R. Leskowitz of The Harvard Crimson:
"Landry nearly steals the show with his riveting acting and intense singing. The dramatic passion the tenor brings to his rich vocal performance provides a bridge between the disconnection of rational sense and Calaf’s blind devotion to Turandot. A highlight is the celebrated aria “Nessun Dormaâ€â€”translated to English as 'None Shall Sleep'—performed at the start of the final act with mesmerizing conviction and emotion." Brian is clearly becoming the new dramatic tenor sensation of the opera world.Audiences and opera lovers will hear him once again as Otello in 2009 when Brian returns to the venue which started his career, Lowell House Opera at Harvard University.Brian Landry received his early professional training as a church soloist throughout the greater Boston area, and has been a frequent concert recitalist at several venues in New England. He has performed in concert as a guest artist with the Sound and Vision Concert Series sponsored by ACI. In 2005, Brian Landry sang at Symphony Hall in Boston during the annual PopSearch contest sponsored by the Boston Pops.In March 2007, Brian graduated from the prestigious Accademia Verdiana in Busseto, Italy, where he studied voice and operatic interpretation with the great Verdian Maestro Carlo Bergonzi. Mr. Landry was a highlighted performer at the final concert of the Accademia on March 31, 2007 in the Teatro Verdi in Busseto. The event was televised on Italian National Television channel 5 on the program “Loggioneâ€.After attending the concert, Italian music critic Elena Fornica wrote in La Gazzetta di Parma: “A special mention for Tenor Brian Landry, whose voice, which is an important one, deserves an unceasing investment in its development.â€
