Eight to One follows Charles and Mary as they drift aimlessly after graduating college. Passively antisocial, they've created a world around themselves that seldom extends beyond the seedy cafes and dank rock clubs they inhabit. They have big plans as artists and writers, but like their social lives, their professional lives remain mostly dormant through apathy and a vague sense of contentment that comes from leaning against the brick walls of Chicago while making snide comments about the world that passes by them.
Things change when Lori, a sincere small-town girl, enters their lives. A symbol of everything they're not, Lori takes a strange hold upon the two. Soon, the small world Charles and Mary have taken refuge in begins to unravel. For the first time in years, the two think about what they are to each other who they are apart, and ultimately are confronted with their own lives...
