I've met many great people. Most of them are friends or family. I don't get star struck very easily but, I once met one of my heroes--Elvin Jones. I went to see him at the Blue Note in NYC. Tommy Flanagan was sitting just in front of me. After the show Elvin walked over to greet him. Then he just turned around approached our table and thanked us for comming out. I shook his hand and told him I had traveled to NYC to see him--which I had. One of those special nights. My friends and I were the youngest people in the club. I like to think that Elvin was making a gesture toward the future of Jazz (by encoraging our participation as listeners). For anyone who dosen't know the name, he was the catalyst for the explosive John Coltrane Quartet--And the drummer on many of my favorite recordings.View All Friends | View Blog | View Pics | Add Comment
