So, what does Ginglik actually mean? I remember I asked my manager when I first started to work in the venue: “Explosion of Energy†in Cantonese, he answered. I thought it was a pretty cool name for a club, however it is only now though, one year after I started to work there, that I understand that Ginglik is not just the name of the club but the actual embodiment of the explosion of energy itself.
In this cozy place located under Shepherd’s Bush Green I found precisely what I was looking for when I decided to move to London from Spain: The pure spirit of the London Underground and I’m not talking about the overcrowded, overpriced transport system. What I speak of is the London of ideas, the London of music and the London of friends. I have found the London of Londoners, the London of the multi-cultural, the multi-talented and with a multitude of opportunities in this West London community. The London explosion of energy!
I then became involved in the Ginglik Effect: in the art on its walls, in its live music of so many gifted story-tellers and in its spontaneous DJ’s, in the fresh laughs of its comedy nights,in the Philosophy of its bartenders, in the intelligence of its short movies, in this mad community that I feel so proud to belong to!
In Ginglik I felt the pure stuff and I met the pure people: These individuals who struggle their social conditioning in order to honor their souls. Individuals who will explode in their creative careers even though the concurrency seems insurmountable, because they are pure energy: They are Ginglik and Ginglik is them!!
