About Me

Hello there!!I'm Ewan, from the lovely village of Carrbridge in the Scottish Highlands! I've been playing music full time for two years now! I began playing the fiddle and pipes from an early age, taught by Eric Pirrie (fiddle) and John MacDougal (pipes). The Feis movement in Strathspey was very strong when I was growing up and was largely responsible for keeping me interested in music through my teens. In 2000 I went to the National Centre of Excellence for Traditional Music based in Plockton High School. I was taught fiddle by the mighty Iain MacFarlane and pipes by Iain MacFadyen. During the year I spent at the school I began playing the guitar. I then spent 4 years in Glasgow studying Outdoor Education at Strathclyde University where I managed to sneak a 1st class honours degree...wonders never cease!! When I was in Glasgow I helped to form the band Breabach and met Gary Innes with whom I now play regularly! Other bands / soloists that I've been involved with include The Unusual Suspects, Rachel Walker, Charlie Mackerron, Six Foot Ginger and the Long Notes! I now live back in Carrbridge where I am a part-time firefighter. When not playing music I like to spend my time in the hills or on / in the water!
