1986-2009: DILEMMA
Dilemma started in 1986 in Dülken, a small town in the west of Germany. With Christoph we started making very minimalist electronic sound. We thought about a band name, but could not find a good one. It was a Dilemma and so........ the birth of the new band name.
Christoph and me recorded the first 5 songs alone, released as Dilemma Tapes 001 "57 destructions of Nici".
Followed by the second Tape 002 "Im Banne der Musik" together with Carsten and Michael from "The Chemical Death".
It was the first release with the typical minimalist electronic sound of Dilemma.
Tape 003 was basically done by Michael and myself. I wrote and composed all songs and Michael did a great job on the Samples.
Tape 004 from 1988, Dismember your body, again a very minimalist dirty sound, was a little success.
Christoph and me did a small tour in 88 with a couple of concerts in Germany. The double Live Tape 005 was the result.
One day in 88 i visited my friend Dirk Ivens from The Klinik and gave him the 004 tape. He liked it and it surprised me when Dirk later said, he wants to release a track from it on a record.
We never asked for that and we never had the plan to make records or money out of the music we were doing. It was and is still like that.
A dream became truth and end of 1988 the "Christmas EP" on Body records was released with the Dilemma song "Christmas Measure" on it.
After that, we released in March 1989 three songs on Impuls Records 12" Sampler: "Will to Power, My broken body and Shocked in the Glasshouse"
In Summer 1989 we did some concerts as the support act of "The Klinik".
The Dilemma Tape 006 "Live 1989 - Best of the Klinik Support Tour" was released. It included songs from the concert in Bochum/Zwischenfall and Wiesbaden/Haus der Jugend
In 1990 we produced "Wires of Pain". We planned to release it on KK records, but in the last moment, the record company said no.
We went to another record company and they promised to make a 4 track 12", but it was never released. Far from it! Quite the contrary. Because half a year later we heard a new record from that label with our samples and ideas stolen in that song.
It was a shock and big frustration for us, because we were not able to do something against a big label and that well known person in Frankfurt.
We decided to close that chapter and continue making new songs, but not forgetting these person............
In 1991 we released 2 tracks on the CD "More Electronic Body Music" on Impuls Records.
In March 2007 Marc Schaffer from Anna Logue Records contacted me. He woke up a sleeping musician. Since then we are working on a re-release of a best of from the tapes "Dismember your Body" and "Pure Epitaxial Dilemma". The result will be available soon. We expect the release early 2009.
