Although I have been writing for quite a while, I only began performing around January 2007 after I was asked to support a friend's band. After playing a few gigs around Hull, including The Sesh, I travelled down to London to perform at the George Tavern. It was here I found out about Poetry Idol at Shortfuse. After submitting a couple of tracks, I was picked to take part in Poetry Idol 10. I was the joint winner and recieved my first booking as a prize. Since then I have been performing around the country on a regular basis. I have travelled down to London to perform on quite a few occasions, and it was on was on one of these journeys that I was brought to the attention of Apples and Snakes. Earlier this year I was selected to take part in their 'Incubate' scheme, a two year project designed to develop spoken word within a theatre setting. I have had residencies at Contact in Manchester, Birmingham REP and the Battersea Arts Centre in London. I have since been commissioned by BAC to write, perform a show entitled 'Guerrilla Poetry Project' with collaboration with Mike Watts, Patrizia Paolini and video artist Emma Hart. In July 2007 I co-wrote the play 'Change', which was performed at Hull Truck theatre as part of their PlayWrite new writing festival. I performed at the Poetry Arena at Latitude Festival 2008, and performed my debut show 'Poetry is Dead' at the Camden Fringe festival 2008 along with co-writer and performer Mike Watts. I was a guest on Radio Humberside on 9th October 2008 to promote National Poetry Day, and I recorded a performance segment about Hull City at the KC stadium for Sky Sports News on the same day. I am still writing, rehearsing and performing regularly and I will be organising and hosting 'Write to Speak', Yorkshire first regular theatre-based poetry/spoken word night at the new Hull Truck Theatre beginning in May. I have been published in magazines such as 'Rising - Tough on poetry, tough on the causes of poetry' and 'The Fix', but the majority of my output can be found on local alternative website www.thisisull.com.
