The Bad Father

About Me

It's the year 2012. 127,000 are dead from a terrorist attack on the London Olympics. The world is in military lock down. Liberty and rights have been abandoned. Only one hope remains for humanity…Enter: electro-pop superstars, The Bad Father.Forging their own their own unique music genre; The Bad Father's surrealist-euro-trash is unapologetically the responsibility of a lyrca clad duo claiming citizenship with Klamidia; a small inter-dimensional country somewhere in European. Known merely as X and Y, the excentric duo have assembled a glamorous stage spectacular as a vehicle for their offbeat ideology; resplendently complete with backing dancers, video projection and some thumping beats.
"We're huge fans of pop culture," muses co-creator of The Bad Father; Nathan Little, aka X. "We love and hate Kylie and Madonna and we're frustrated performance artists ourselves and have dreams of being Madonna with backup dancers. And because we're also incredibly insecure, we decided that we could never do that seriously. So we've invented this really awful pop group."
The most recent incarnation of this 'awful pop group' was recently imposed on Adelaide audiences as part of the 2007 Gay and Lesbian cultural festival: Feast. Ten years in the making, The Bad Father is the brainchild of two comedians: Amy Bodossian and Nathan, whose comic and musical collaborations over the last decade have culminated in a surrealist set list that takes in subject matter from married men at gay beats to an ode to 'game show love', all spiced with a bucket load of perversion.
"We've got twelve original electronic songs which vary in style," explains Nathan. "Some of them are hip-hop influenced, some of them are eighties electro, some of them are modern dance. And our third character besides X and Y is the projection screen which is sort of another element to the show altogether. So while we're doing perhaps something on a game show, we'll have lots of game show imagery playing behind us, such as hysterical prize winners. We might also occasionally chuck in an irrelevant surrealist moment, such as me dressed up as a clown having sex with Amy dressed up as Paris Hilton from behind."
So maybe not destined for a spot on Rove, TBF have nether the less have acquired a healthy fan base with an equally unhealthy offbeat sense of humour. But even with this open-minded following, the duo is still able to tap into taboos with some controversial mileage left in them.
"We do push buttons – sure," muses Amy. "But that's never the intention of course."
"Really we just want to make people laugh and walk away a bit more educated at the end of the day," agrees Nathan. "The reaction we really want is when they walk out we want them to say: I don't know what just happened, but I really liked it and that was really funny."
"Like a good dream," croons Amy. "Without any stains!" Nathan quickly sniggers.
