About Me

Fuse Music is proud to release "International Travel"..... the debut solo album by Melbourne songstress Kaye-Louise Patterson. Recorded at Atlantis Sound, mixed by Dave Graney and Clare Moore at their Ponderosa studio, produced by Jeff Williams and featuring a stellar cast of players, including Clare Moore (Dave Graney), Adele Pickvance (Go-Betweens) and Sean Simmons (The Spoils), this ethereal album features delicate lead vocals, lush harmonies and minimal guitar, evoking the great "lost" singer-songwriters of the early 1970s such as Karen Dalton, Linda Perhacs, Judee Sill.To quote Billy Pinnell's four-star review in the Music Australia Guide:"This classically trained pianist/composer/singer who honed her talents in '90s country-pop band Acuff's Rose makes her long awaited solo debut with this impressive release. The piano driven arrangements anchored by Clare Moore's subtle drums and the melodic electric bass of Adele Pickvance and Sean Simmons leave room for splashes of vibraphone, keyboards, 12 string electric guitar and on one song a string quartet. The ethereal, delicate delivery of Kaye-Louise's vocals and layered backing harmonies add to the appeal of this alluring album. A musical journey that reveals more with every listen." About Kaye-Louise...........Kaye-Louise Patterson grew up in Melbourne and studied music from an early age. A classically trained piano player, flute player and singer, she started her musical career in bands by filling in one night at a New Years Eve party in Kew (Melbourne). After trying to leave, the rest of the band convinced her to stay, promising to kick out the original member; which they did.Following this ruthless introduction to rock bands a rather naive Kaye-Louise stayed on to play keyboards in what was to become 80s Jungle funk band Battle Happy. Discovered by John Phillips (Not Drowning, Waving) and his brother Gumpy Phillips (Freaked out Flower Children) it was the Phillips brothers who first encouraged Kaye-Louise to make the leap from classical to pop. Also in the line up were guitarist and songwriter Phil Ceberano (and various drummers). Battlehappy played numerous gigs in the eighties, playing with such bands as The Models, Kids in the Kitchen and The Johnnys, and, amongst other things, contributed a song to the fight scene in the Australian feature film Malcolm. Sadly, Battlehappy imploded one night at a gig in the early days of the Fringe festival when a fight erupted between band members on stage.Kaye-Louise is, however, perhaps best known as pianist and vocalist to Melbourne alt country progenitors Acuff's Rose who released three acclaimed CDs: Long Past Dawn (1992); Never Coming Down (1993); and Son of the North Wind (1995), all on the Torn & Frayed label (home to Dave Graney & the Coral Snakes, The Blackeyed Susans and The Dirty Three). As the co-founding member (with Jeff Williams) Kaye-Louise contributed to the distinctive Acuff's Rose sound. Acuff's Rose third CD "Son of The North Wind" featured Kaye-Louise's first original recording, "The Spell" arranged by Robin Casinader (Hood/The Wreckery) and featuring composer Jen Anderson on first violin and backing vocals, produced and mixed by Conway Savage (Bad Seeds). "Son of The North Wind" enjoyed great success in Europe, with Kaye-Louise and Jeff Williams living overseas for some time to promote the record and play throughout France as a duo.Currently, Kaye-Louise is guesting on fellow artists upcoming records, and rehearsing new material for her next project with Clare Moore.www.myspace.com/kayelouisepatterson
