WBRI write up 2009
Comprising of just 3 members playing bass, guitar and drums, one could be forgiven for assuming that Citizen Snips are just another generic alt-rock trio with a strange name. However, with emphasis placed on creating new music and exploring sonic possibilities this is exactly what the Northern Ireland trio are NOT. The band has a cohesive ethos of refusing to be confined to traditional musical practices such as conventional song structure, predictable tonality and cop-out musical cliches.
Bravely, in a society where so much of music is dependent on vocals, the band do not employ voice into their effects driven sound as they believe vocals are not a pre-requisite for telling a story through music. The 3 members embarked on their current instrumental venture in early 2008 and since then have been writing and performing with the primary objective being to express themselves purely, honestly and vividly through music whilst striving for innovation and individuality with their sound which has been described as being ‘melodic, loud, calming and apocalyptic all at once’. Their efforts from the time of the band’s inception have culminated in the release of a debut 3-song self-titled E.P. In early 2009 with the promise of much more to come.
