My name is Eric Choate. I am a "man thinking", a learner, a human, a creator, a composer, and an artist, in that order. I was born in Columbus, Ohio. I enjoy philosophy, poetry, communion, nature, and music. Mostly, I enjoy the thread that ties all of that together. I consider myself to be a student of the great thinkers, Emerson and Thoreau. When combining these thinkers, I find one message to be true: Divinity lives in all of us in the form of morality (duty), and truth (a personal transcendence of metaphysics). Humans develop truth, experience beauty in that truth and in nature, and from that, our moral duty as humans is to create: to create beauty that will transcend to truth and thus, to morality to another. Therefore, I deem it my greatest duty to create, more specifically, wherein my talents lie: to compose. Not to compose music, but to compose truth and beauty through music. So I am a composer: I have been composing for four years now. I am a rising first year at St. Olaf College, where I will study for my Bachelor of Arts in Music Theory/Composition. I recently graduated from Arizona School for the Arts and completed several composition courses with Dr. Robert Albury at Glendale Community College. I have just spent six weeks as a volunteer to the Iona Community. I lived on the Isle of Iona, a remote isle off of Mull, Scotland. Scotland is my favorite place in the world! I also hold a Conscientious Objection status and work with a Counter Military Recruitment team linked to the Presbyterian Peace Fellowship.
