It would be an huge under-statement to say that Queens, New York has produced some of the most prolific rap groups in Hip-Hop history. From RUN-DMC and A Tribe Called Quest to Mobb Deep – talent in the Q-Borough exemplifies what makes or breaks a successful rap duo. For one group primed to withstand the pressure and carry the legacy there is no business like family business. Brothers LP the Don and Tasheem aka Ta Cantone grew up in Queens and their lives exemplifies the true definition of what it is to struggle and survive in the concrete jungle.
On the streets of Queens where music is as prevalent as crime, these two brothers persevered through all of the negativity, hatred and jealousy to become one of the hottest commodities in the music industry today. This new talented group is looking to re-energize hip hop with a new flair that hasn’t been seen in a decade.
In the early ‘80s Hip-Hop was a musical force with B-Boys and B-Girls roaming the New York Streets like a new Black Power movement, but through music. Over in the Bronx, Grand Master Flash & the Furious Five made noise by signing with Sugar Hill and releasing arguably the greatest Hip-Hop record ever, “The Message.†Meanwhile, in Queens two brothers were watching a live MTV broadcast of local cats, RUN-DMC. It was the first time LP and Tasheem had seen these rap legends and neighborhood boys, along with their DJ, perform live. Says Tasheem, “the first time I saw RUN-DMC on MTV perform as a duo – their voice took me and the way they meshed together reminded me [of us].†Thus, One Pham as a duo comprised of brothers Kevin and Donnell, was born.
One Pham has hit the local and national scene with authority over the past couple of months performing in Atlanta, Baltimore, NY, Pennsylvania, Ohio and various other cities with some of the best talents in the industry which includes the likes of Bone Thugs N Harmony, Lil’ Scrappy, Lil’ Wayne, Glory and more.
