Linear B rose out of the ashes of Rosetti's Wombat (who, despite the name played a mixture of bopish jazz repertoire and more fusionesque originals) as the brainchild of Matthew Shorter(piano) and Hubert Spall (sax), who spent a year or so just writing and exploring compositional ideas.
With the addition of Pete Marsh (double bass) and Andy Willis (drums) came the opportunity to explore improvisation in a big way, taking the compositions as a starting point for a sound-world and musical ideology. The group have spent many months working on the group sound and getting inside the music, and have developed cohesion and confidence to explore.
