YouTube.com My discipline is to create a movie-a-day with my SVP HDDV8600 MPG small-format camera - occasionally I use my one-chip Panasonic PVGS35. I like to use the "lesser" equipment to demonstrate that you don't need to spend a lot of money on cameras to get high production value. It still gets down to good stories. The uploads are mostly mpeg4 H.264 format. You can check out my production reel below. It has a few cuts from my YouTube.com uploads.View all of them at www.youtube.com/kaerupix
Why 'Kaeru'?
Uncle Jake was a frog collector and a frog painter. He passed away in the early part of 2007. Frogs hold special meaning in Japan and for many Japanese Americans. The Japanese word for frog, 'kaeru,' also means "to return." Travelers carry frog charms to ensure a safe return from their journey.
11th The Boulder Asian Film Festival
The The 11th Boulder Asian Film Festival planning is underway and set for February 13-16 2009. BAFF will be held in Downtown Boulder in conjunction with the the Boulder International Film Festival. BAFF will soon be accepting movie and screenplay entries. Speaking of screenplays, Bob Larue was one of the 2007 winners with his short "Adobo." He and his son are in preproduction with the hopse of having it ready for screening at the 2008-09 BAFF. I'm hoping to produce Chris Barerra's "Bouncy Ball" this spring/summer.
10th BAFF 'In the Can'
The BAFF 2007 wrapped up in mid August. Two movie luaus were sponsored by Wahoo's Fish Tacos and 8 Island BBQ at the Boulder theater. We were pleased to show "The Cats of Mirikitani" by Linda Hattendorf on opening night. Music was provided by Jack Hadley. The other highlight was the premiere of "Gold Digger" which was produced by the festival.
Saturday night, was headlined by Wendy Woo following the movies.
We also had some good crowds at the Shambhala Center for "A Zen Life" and a couple other documentaries including "Tamdin's Journey" and the story of the Shambhala Center, produced locally.
Other Film Festivals
I hope to find another big festival to help out. Last year, I attended Tribeca for a week. Over Labor Day, I make volunteer for the Telluride Film Festival. I generally help out the BIFF and the 24 Hour Shootout, too.
