About Me

Lívio Almeida is a young saxophone and flute player from Brazil, who already has a vast experience playing music, in many fields such as Jazz, Brazilian and Classical music. He had his first contact with music learning his first notes in the Military School of Brasilia band. After a few years he entered in the Music School of Brasilia, the biggest and one of the most respected music conservatories of Latin America. At 18 he entered in the bachelor in Music program - Classical Saxophone - at University of Brasilia. While in college he started also playing professionally in his hometown and started learning jazz with the MM in Music Bruno Medina, who gave him his first lessons about jazz. With a great passion for jazz he tried to develop that language in his playing. After a few years Livio graduated at University of Brasilia and played with the best musicians in the Brasilia musical scene. About that same time Livio started playing flute influenced by the Brazilian Choro Music, he began to admire also. Now Livio is living in New York attending the BFA program in Jazz Performance at City College as a second degree student, being a recipient of the Kaye Scholarship and also several prizes by the CCNY's music Department. Studying with great masters of jazz like Scott Reeves, Daniel Carillo, Mike Holober, Ray Gallon, Jason Rigby,The Thelonious Monk competition winner saxophonist Jon Gordon and the famous great bassist John Patitucci.
