Caught by the virus that is called the perfect beat Andre and Emile first encountered in a local club in 1992; Flat 113 in a suburb of Amsterdam.
Andre was at the time an experienced DJ, radio disk jockey and a producer, predominantly into Electro (Afrika Bambaata style), its latino derivate Freestyle, 80's style R&B and latin clubhouse.
Emile was a hiphop head who in the early nineties started to build out his collection from hardrock (KISS) to hiphop, soul, funk, disco and jazz by means to use this vinyl for hiphop productions.
These men share a love for interesting music to dance and to listen to and aren't limited to a certain style. If it's quality they'll acknowledge, no matter what type of music.
The starting point for the collaboration was a track called "Act Like You Didn't See It" which was produced in early 1992 for Poet3, a rapgroup from Schagen that originated in 1989. Emile - NukaiOne - was one of the rappers in the group, Edwin Bakker the other. Poet3 performed several shows in Noord Holland before they broke up. In the meanwhile Matalent kept on rolling, producing sample rich track after track varying from jazzy to rock oriented hiphop.
"Nowadays our record collections are even bigger and our musical taste is even broader", states Andre. "Our only limitation in producing music is our mind. We make the tracks we like to listen to ourselves, no compromize."So if you are into not your everyday hiphop, house or freestyle, you should check out this space and www.matalent.nl regularly.
