Early childhood education has always been my passion. Every since I had my first child care job when I was fifteen, I knew that working with children was my calling. Throughout the years, I have worked as a teacher for children between the ages of birth through five and as a director and assistant director of several child care centers. I currently work for a community college as a Professional Development Coordinator where I help early childhood teachers go back to school to receive more education and training. I help connect them with financial aid resources and other incentive programs that make going to school worthwhile. I have received several degrees and certificates in early childhood education and business.
Teacher education for early childhood providers is very important to me. We touch lives every day and we help to build their memory base which will later influence their decisions. What we teach them is what they learn regardless of whether we are trying to teach them something or not. Children will learn from you whether it is positve or negative, whether you know they are learning or whether you think they are not paying attention to you. I believe in my heart that if we put more emphasis on how we discipline, educate, and love them, then we can help change to world from one that is filled with anger and aggression to one that is filled with adults who care about one another.
But enough about my career, I have been married to my high school sweetheart for almost 8 years. We met at a band competition in 1994 and have been together ever since. I played the clarinet (can't play it now!) and he played the drums. We were married a few months before he was discharged from the United States Marine Corps where he received his training in diesel mechanics. He also has his Class A CDL and has experience driving trucks. But currently, my husband is a producer and songwriter for his own record label and he owns his own studio. He has released four albums and was just featured on the new DJ Green Lantern CD (free download from his page). His group is called the "SouthSide Kings" and their latest album is available for sale.
