About Me

Barretta , founder of Str8Brickz Records, is one of the fiercest unsigned, underground lyricists from the South. He is known for his ability to shift gears mid-verse, freezing and shocking his listeners. Equally as powerful as his delivery, his smoothly orchestrated lyrical technique is a verbal work of art, filled with imagery and idioms, which paint verbal pictures. Don't be fooled by his laid back persona; he is said to be two separate people. One: A polite, quiet young man and the other: an infinite source of energy found only in the spotlight with a microphone in hand. In years past, his life was spent hustling, crime and thugging, he now had a new love music. Tired of the streets hustling he set his eyes on devisins a plan called "Tha RedBrickz project" to give younger thugs and G's an even deeper look into life on the streets. Brian Barrett, also know as ill-Barretta, is of the new breed of MC. He writes, arranges, produces and distributes his own music through several states. Barretta was a member of rap groups South of the Border and Crooked Minz, which had performances around Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Ohio, the Carolinas, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, Kansas, and Colorado. After South of the Borders album release, Barretta left the group to release his own record, Last of A Dying Breed. Now as a solo artist, Barretta surely has the skills to make an impact on the industry and claim the recognition he has long awaited and deserved.Rapping since the young age of 13, Barretta is far from an amateur. Taken under the wing of his older brother, Norman, he was slowly cured and cooked into the meal that millions of fans have been longing to hear through CD players. Its time for his adverse and vivid lines of vicious lyrical artwork to be showcased within the music industry. Displayed on a canvas of Southern gangsta beats in strong and heavy vocal brushwork and an array of powerful poetic techniques, youre sure to embrace ill-Barretta and what he brings "Back to the Game of Rap" originality.Since he first approached the microphone, where won his first local talent show in Georgia, Barretta was given the title "One Man Army". It was neither his drive to devour any of his opponents in the realms of freestyle ciphers; nor his avid ability to touch thuggish hearts that solidified his standings. In fact, it was his all around capability to put what he felt to music. He even sometimes creates romantic poetry that would sweep any woman off her feet. As he says, Even Thugs need love. Gifted with an ability to paint the images onto the mental canvas, he is a pleasure to anyone who hears his words. Did I mention he has a cunning wit to create his own unique dirty south style of beats and sometimes melodic interludes that seem talk by their selves? Yes, hes a beat maker: A beat maker with the skills of a young Dr. Dre, blended in Scott Storchs, simmered in sweet Timbaland-Kayne sauce. Listening is proof enough, as to why Fans loves what he serves. His smooth, exciting and sometimes tongue-tied deliveries are as complete as his stage presence and performances. He is said to be one of the more exciting up and coming entertainers of our time. This baby-faced artist, physical appearance seems just as astonishing as his talent, to deliver a no holds, no bar, unedited version of the streets. So prolific, 60 minutes, even in its prime, couldnt depict it in such detail. His drive: Scars (both physical and mental), anger (from constant denial), pain (from a hard Ghetto upbringing), and frustration (due to a lack of presence of originality in the main stream). His message: "Survive and provide, thrive and never subside til I Die." Now he is seeking his long awaited and well deserved chance to be heard by more than a minuscule audience. His latest release: Heavy Rotation. The projects in works: A New Kind Of Grind, was well as a book, How I Did it. Yes a writer of profound talent, whom leaves you clinging to every letter word sentence and paragraph. He has recently beginning his next album Upgrade 101. Now thats staying ahead of the Game.Plain and Simple this young man had paced his self to raise the standards of rap artist and make history. He will without a doubt be a reckoning force in the future, neither be out-done nor forgotten. Sounds Like: the Hood, & the Streets(if they could talk), the Club(if it could Rap), & the world(if it could cry out loud), seen thru the heart of a Ghetto poet . The technique of my delivery soley depends on the track. Either way you put it it sounds like life.
