Wayne Cockfield grew up in Scranton, SC and began playing guitar at thirteen years of age and has always played professionally. After studying privately with Joe Wilson and Fred Sabback in Charleston, SC he moved to Los Angeles where at age 23 he studied at Musicians Institute and Dick Grove School of Music. After graduation Wayne moved to Seattle and worked for REH Publications in 1980 and later opened a music instruction studio called Academy of Music in Bellevue, Washington.While in Seattle, Wayne worked on arranging and recording projects for Muzak, the background music business.He has performed all over the United States with original bands and diverse recording artists from Don Moen, Ron Kenoly, Jay Clayton, Rich Little, Steve Gatlin, numerous shows from The Stars of the Lawrence Welk Show, The Alabama Theatre, Legends in Concert, Always Patsy Cline, Nashville to Broadway, and many others.Wayne moved back to South Carolina in 1994 where he has contributed to many published note for note guitar transcription books for Warner Bros. Publications, CPP Belwin, Amsco, arranging for shows and cruise ships, composing and recording projects, and worked for 10 years as the music director for Myrtle Beach Community Church.Currently Wayne is performing local in various jazz bands in the Myrtle Beach area as well as maintaining a full private lesson schedule while continuing various arranging, transcription and recording projects. He and his family attend Calvary Chapel in Myrtle Beach.
